Trichromatic Lotus Butterfly.
Primates miraculously re-evolved a trichromatic vision because it was so important for our ancestors living in trees to be able to spot ripe fruit amongst the foliage to eat. The only mammals that have trichromatic vision are primates and a few unrelated marsupials. THAT’S NEAT. That’s neat.

So, the colorblind prey can't see orange (see image left/right below for trichromatic/dichromatic views), but humans can... which is also why we make high-vis hunting gear orange: the deer see it as dark green.
But why not just make dark-green fur? It's much harder than it sounds!

one of my favorite biology facts is most mammals are dichromatic and not trichromatic like humans so orange actually appears as green. Since melanin can’t produce a true green pigment, orange works just as well

Most all other vertebrates are trichromatic or even quadromatic (can see ultraviolet/infrared). Mammals evolved primarily as nocturnal creatures and prioritized high-contrast/low light vision, and when it comes to evolution, if you don’t need it, you lose it.

Looking at my Cara grid, I really like seeing the consistency of a fairly monochromatic palette. Technically closer to trichromatic, I suppose: white, yellow, purple.
Either way, I think I'm going to explore more colorful palettes in the coming year. Mix it up a bit.

We humans are trichromatic, with cone cells sensitive to three different wavelengths/colors of light.
But most animals (esp. in jungles) are dichromatic, meaning they only detect blue and green. They're colorblind, so orange appears as a darker shade of green, which is a neat trick for the tiger.
