Trofimova has done most her work for Russian state disinformation agency RT.
I interviewed her in 2024 and came away pretty convinced of her aim to sanitize Russian aggression.

Video: Witnessing the drone war for Ukraine from the Russian side
The war in Ukraine shows how effective drones have become in combat. The Globe embedded with Russian forces in late 2025 and saw how the drone war is affecting the battlefield and civilians.

I was certainly against banning the film, and I didn't think it was quite the full-bore propaganda flick that some made it out to be.
But I would also never hire Trofimova to produce journalistic content.

German Wikipedia is more precise: "In 2019 she moved to Russia, her mother's homeland".
Russia has a rich history of using foreign citizens with Russian family ties – especially ones socialised in Western countries – to relay their talking points abroad. Think of Anastasia Trofimova or Alina Lipp.

The Globe and Mail has published a video in which Russian propagandist Anastasia Trofimova illegally embeds herself with Russian forces and 'neutrally' profiles their use of drones on occupied Ukrainian territory. Trofimova's documentary 'Russians at War' was also financed by the Canadian taxpayer.
