That RFK has views merely "controversial" is a good example of refuge-seeking behavior in journalism, as against truth-seeking. In refuge seeking, first priority is to protect against criticism.

To me this is stonger than "enough with the euphemisms!" because truth-telling is supposed to be first.

The absolute truth is that the Republicans were not interested in the truth, they were seeking a gotcha moment and it blew up in their faces!!!!

Jay's third key distinction: truth-seeking vs. refuge-seeking behavior in journalism.

Truth-seeking needs no definition. It is finding out what actually happened— and telling us.

Refuge-seeking involves telling the story in a way that protects against anticipated attacks... 10/

Seeking out THE truth instead of seeking out OUR truth should be incentivized more.

The federal government stopped New Mexico in 2019 from continuing to investigate Jeffrey Epstein and his Zorro Ranch.

Today, its legislators and its Attorney General are seeking the truth.
New Mexico isn’t waiting for the Trump DOJ to do justice for the victims/survivors of Jeffrey Epstein.

Courtesy of @repromero.bsky.social, the Epstein Truth Commission has launched & the AG has reopened criminal investigations.

Rep. Romero joins me for the latest.

When a Republican has nothing to lose and says the truth. Not seeking reelection is a beautiful thing.

MAGA Republicans don’t care about truth, they only care about seeking power at any cost.

We’re not standing down. Let’s link arms and win this fight for truth, justice, and each other.

We are in this current nightmare in part because too many members of the media were more interested in access than seeking the truth.
It’s outrageous that Trump is blocking the Associated Press from White House events. But there’s an upside if the press becomes less dependent on what politicians dole out. After all, journalism shouldn’t look like feeding time at the aquarium.

Can political media break the addiction to access?
Trump’s ban on AP could be an opportunity for greater independence.

When it comes to Epstein, the grand jury transcripts aren’t the ones that people seeking the truth should be interested in. Prosecutors always say, “Follow the money.” That’s as true here as in any other case. Read about how it could happen: joycevance.substack.com/p/laffaire-e...

Truth-seeking is what journalists see themselves as always doing. Find the truth. What could be simpler, right?

Refuge-seeking includes common practices like false balance, "both sides do it," steering the story "down the middle," and the depiction of "dueling realities" in a divided nation. 12/
