I've always felt that AT MOST you MIGHT be able to say Disney was capitalizing on a trend they foresaw, but that's both A) false (Aladdin was Ashman's baby, and there's no evidence he knew about TTatC) and B) kinda hard to believe? It would mean they saw TTatC as competition, which... lmao, no

God im that person i cant even lie.

Like tTatC is a deeply, deeply flawed film with a production that was an actual nightnare scenario. On no planet was it "worth" the blood and sweat put into it

And yet

It -is- animated on such a level that like. Like. Look at it. You know?

Tack the Cobbler is a victim not only of "he wouldn't f*cking say that" in the "finished" versions of TTATC but also. He doesn't f*cking LOOK like that. Every time I look at these images I'm filled with undue indignance. This is not the freaky nail-chewing scarecrow twink that I fell in love with!!

Yeah. I think things like TTATC will never hit me the same way because while I obviously adore animation as a medium, I'm inspired by illustration and comic-making, not animation. I don't have the same fascination for the medium actually being an animator would put in me.

Yeah, that's fair.

His practices also carried over to his production of the Raggedy Anne and Andy movie he did, which he did to fund TTATC, where he similarly went overbudget, overschedule, and got fired from the project. There's even a caricature of him in the film who King Koo-Koo says to fire.

while the 1993 print of TTATC may be the inferior version for all the weird cuts/liberties taken from the original film, Tack outright being like "yk in retrospect I prolly should have bailed for my own safety, but first I had to touch base with my situationship" made me chuckle

it seems in this case, part of the context (~52-57) is a reverse complement of CAGC, resembles part of the less informative flanking (40-45) of the core GATAA/TTATC motif. I guess I would consider this still a “known motif” as probably it’s from some weaker DBD-DNA interaction

Some of the fire homies doing the thing at TTATC. I grew up with the mans with the chucks. Proud to call him a friend.

There's a lot to be said about this film in its technical wonder of execution. I do not idolize it; I understand that this film still suffers from heavy Orientalism, perpetuating harmful stereotypes like Aladdin 1992 had done. TTaTC is flawed, but there is still a lot to learn from it.

Yeah, that's true.

Even crazier is that storyboards for TTATC weren't made until Warner Bros. started breathing down his neck.

He also helmed that trippy Raggedy Anne movie, which got criticism for being unfocused, not making sense, and having too many songs but praise for its animation.
