an illustration by yuruyuri author namori of toshinou kyouko drawing on a chalkboard. it has been edited so that she is drawing the loss meme. beneath is a link to the original illustration. "speaking of which, this is my current discord pfp" an illustration of the same character by the same artist. she is holding an edited-in pacific sea nettle above her head and looking at it ponderously. "and i need to make more of these" there are source links here too '"in what context do you need to make more of these, emnesoi ?" i dont know but its fun to make toshinou kyouko do things'

im thinking about that twitter interaction (i forget the specifics of like who and where) where conservative dude says "i would kill every gorilla to save my family." and funny person replies "would you suck every gorilla's dick to save your family ?" and i think that's beautiful because, like, if the answer is yes, then yea conservative dude wants to save his family. but if the answer is no, then conservative dude just wants to kill gorillas and has come up with a weird castle-doctriney excuse to have that fantasy. and to be clear, that's fine, he just should have been honest about it. the tweet should have read "i want to kill gorillas" and i would be ok. i would disagree, obviously, because gorillas are critically endangered, but at least conservative dude would be being honest and that's really what it's all about.

the term "gooner"* has been amazing for internet misogynists because now instead of admitting that they're angry at the existence of women they can pretend that they're actually angry about theoretical men who want to fuck those women, which conveniently leads to the exact same results. *or rather, yknow, as synecdoche for the social conditions that created this term. whatever you didnt need me to explain this

very funny people calling the fruit fly brain simulation "unethical" considering 1. these arent actual fly brains and 2. this is a species of fly that we give genetic diseases to for fun so even if they were making actual flies play deadlock that would be the least of the ethical concerns

something ive noticed through my vestigial reddit addiction is that every music subreddit invariably has a lot of people who are incredibly insecure about the fact that they dont like the "canon" music in that community. practically every other day on the anthony fantano subreddit, there is someone making a post essentially saying "am i a broken person incapable of complex thought if i don't like neutral milk hotel ??" -- albeit phrased in a less emotionally direct way than that because, again, we're talking about redditors. and that's odd, right ? obviously the answer is no, you just don't find some incredibly niche music to be of your taste. but these people are so obsessed with fitting in that they (collectively) constantly search for validation that they are not beneath the others for having the smallest possible aberration in opinion from the group. and i don't know, i think that's interesting.

when people ask why i don't eat meat, the responses i've gotten the most fun out of are - "i don't want to" + refusing to elaborate (if they're chill they'll say fair enough and if they're not they'll get really frustrated in a really funny way) and - "i don't like the taste" (fucks with their heads big time for some reason)

i need to figure out what would happen in a sapient species that practices haplodiploidy (translator's note: "haplodiploidy" means "unfertilized eggs develop into males* and fertilized eggs develop into females*") *i am aware of the political implications of these terms, but i cannot think of better alternatives. please note thoroughly that i am not talking about humans. would there be slutshaming if a member of this species gave birth to many females ? if sex was pleasurable, would there end up being "male shortages" in societies ? would states encourage abstinence/contraception in these circumstances ? what would feminism look like ? considering every ovulation would result in pregnancy, what kind of social revolution would the development of abortion create ? gay people ???? would a sufficiently advanced society develop medically-induced parthenogenesis, considering this would be significantly easier than in a species where sex determination is random ? how would everyone feel about this ? i like the idea that the stereotype of "boy mom" in their society would map very well onto our stereotype of "crazy cat lady". holy shit their transmisogyny would be insane. can you imagine.

i have a lot of thoughts about surviving earth (and ideologically similar documentaries) but instead of nitpicking i'm going to try to make a broader judgement: no nature documentary which refuses to depict sex or violence, which restricts itself to wholesome and satisfying narratives, can possibly be accurate. the beauty of life on earth lies in its structure and diversity, not in its ability to demonstrate human moral ideals. if someone does not understand this, then making a documentary for them (or imo talking to them in any capacity) is a waste of time. by modifying the facts to fit their values, you are not creating a springboard for further curiosity, you are making a pit for curiosity to fall into and die. and if you're ok with this, then you should [checks tumblr's tos] not be ok with this. in fewer words: the natural world contains a lot of things which can make humans very uncomfortable. the solution to this is not to sanitize depictions of the natural world, it's to demand that people stop being uncomfortable.

power metal never hits for me because it feels like the genre conventions (namely the ways it handles harmony and instrumentation) come from a lack of confidence in heavy metal's ability to get across emotion. it feels like they're saying "haha, metal is fun and all, but we want this to be a good song, so let's start taking some cues from real music. you're not like those weird freaky metalheads, you're better than that, and so are we." it kind of feels inherently disrespectful, like the metal equivalent of a sarcastic oelvn. ^ post i would make if i was insane and wrong

i really like when fandom types conflate "criticizing" with "disallowing", as if ragging on something makes that thing no longer permitted, somehow. like damn i didn't know i was elected queen of the world where my word had so much power over everyone. if i had known sooner i would have been more irresponsible with it. i crook my finger in a way that tells my army to slay you all mercilessly. yes... yes !! go, my minions ! cleave this hideous earth in twain ! fill my nostrils with the scent of burning flesh ! take all of their naive conceptions of peace and replace it with twisted bones and shattered dreams ! give me war ! war !! WAR !!! do not stop until every man, woman, and child has seen the inside of their own skull ! i demand nothing less than ceaseless violence ! KILL

links lead to the wikipedia pages for insect, domain (biology), and virus respectively.
trying to figure out how to do biology in anglish Wigs are unbackboneds of the fold Wig. They are the greatest set within the lithfoot theed. Wigs have an outframe, a three-deal body (head, breast, and bouk), three twosomes of wharveful legs, togetherput eyes, and a twosome of thixels. Wigs are the most manifold set of deer, with more than a thousand thousand known stocks; they make up more than half of all deer stocks. So say the lordship way, the tree of life has either three lordships, Fernmen, Staves, and Nutbearers, or two lordships, Fernmen and Staves, with Nutbearers in Fernmen. In the three-lordship bisen, the first two are nutless, one-clising small tharmdoms without a skin-bound nut. All tharmdoms that have a clising nut and other skin-bound tharmlings are in Nutbearers. An attern is an undersmallseerish smitting deedfrom that breeds only in the living clisings of a tharmdom. Atterns smit all beings, from deer and worts to smalltharmdoms, such as Staves and Fernmen. Atterns are found in almost every lifedom on Earth and are the muchest kind of lifeloreish being. Since the first finding of an attern, the pipeweed bleestoning attern, in the 1890s, more than 16,000 of the thousands of thousands of attern stocks have been known thoroughly. The poring of atterns is known as atternlore, an underlore of smalllifelore. lordships: Fernmen, Staves, Nutbearers kingdoms of Nutbearers: Deer, Worts, Swambs, Firststers ten most rife theeds of Deer: Lithfoots, Softlings, Withebearers, Flatworms, Threadlies, Ringlings, Nettles, Holefuls, Ileskins, Mossdeer, Wheelbearers, Seaelfens, Slowtreaders i, a lady, have the following batchlaw: - lordship: Nutbearers - kingdom: Deer - theed: Withebearers - undertheed: Backboneds - fold: Milkmakers - dright: Athels - kin: Manlikes - knoosle: Men - stock: M. wise (note: i am not active in any communities full of the specific kind of linguistics nerds that use anglish, and someone who is will tell me this is wrong.)

æon flux (2005) is such a terrible adaptation of æon flux (1991-1995) that it's led me to appreciate what's good about the latter more aeon flux (1991) is horny. the monican uniform is basically bdsm gear. the fact that aeon and trevor are constantly cucking each other is a major part of their dynamic. the movie has basically no sexuality in it whatsoever. i understand why aeon (2005)'s actor would be uncomfortable with wearing the monican uniform (1991) -- the fact that animation allows things to be depicted without being filmed is its greatest strength, and this is a good demonstration of it. bregna is not a dystopia. both bregna and monica are near-utopic societies. all characters' physical needs (1991) are being met, more or less; the conflicts are ideological or emotional. aeon flux is not fighting for monican independence -- she and her people are free -- and this allows the show to create situations where her neuroses and principles can flourish absent the threats of poverty. aeon (1991) is allowed to be individualistic as a demonstration of monican principles -- she does not struggle for The People, she struggles for herself and her friends. aeon flux (2005) has flattened the ideological struggle of the original series into a very basic material one. perhaps the latter is more relevant to extant politics, but that is not what the original is interested in. this uniqueness is to its strength. bregna (2005) is poorly justified as a dystopia. aeon's reason for fighting is "people are sad sometimes" and "people get arrested", of which one is the human condition and the other depends heavily on context -- neither can be considered inherently "unjust". the actual weird shit that trevor is doing is unknown to her before she's already killed for her cause. the conflict (2005) (that "weird shit" that trevor is doing) is darling in the franxx. it suffers from all the same misogyny and misplaced principles that darling in the franxx has. the thing that trevor is doing is only a problem insofar as he's lying about it; otherwise, it's just different from 2000s liberalism, and the movie considers that to be a problem for some reason. aeon flux (1991) is not necessarily a feminist text, but it is about as non-misogynistic as it could possibly be. the movie frames "women should bear children" as a feminist thesis. the society that is created by aeon (2005)'s resistance movement (referred to as "monica" in the text but that's confusing) is not monica (1991), it is 2000s america. the movie does not bother to imagine a better future than the present because, in its mind, the present is basically perfect. they (2005) mispronounce "bregna" and it sounds stupid. as far as i can tell, a good portion of the creative decisions made in aeon flux (2005) must have originated from the author (2005) observing that aeon flux (1991) didn't do certain things -- didn't explore certain topics, didn't depict certain conflicts, etc -- and went "oh ! that means there's ground for an original story in this world !" rather than asking whether those omissions were intentional. wait no im not done, i forgot about the reincarnation thing. aeon flux (1991) does its best to make sure that "destiny" has no say in its conflicts, and it considers familial relationships to be a form of destiny. nearly all of the relationships in aeon flux (1991) are ones made by choice. if two people are associated, the show holds itself to justify it rather than relying on the simplistic handwave of "they're siblings or whatever". the movie does not hold itself to this standard. the show does not concern itself with the origin of aeon and trevor's relationship, and it does not need to. the viewer can easily observe why the two are fascinated with each other. the movie, on the other hand, does not depict their relationship so strongly, so to justify their fascination with each other, they make them reincarnations of a married couple. i'm not sure what to say about either of these other than "i would not have liked aeon flux (1991) nearly as much if these were present in it". the show dismisses genetic relation and "destiny" as flimsy justifications for action, and in so doing, holds itself to a higher standard of justifying relationships. this works towards the strength of its character writing. if family and destiny were important, the characters would no longer be individuals. futhermore, the reincarnation is just. bad. memories are maintained via cloning, which is bad enough, but worse is that (iirc) the clones are not made down a chain, but from an original source. each clone somehow transmits information to the original genome. to say that the movie believes that lamarck was right is an understatement. i'm not even sure what model of evolution "a clone of a grandmother will carry the memories of her grandchildren" is.
