Auntie stands solemnly beside him, a thoughtful expression on her face. She's quiet for long enough that Frenchie starts to think the conversation is over. "You know, I had one. Earlier," she finally says. She looks at him dourly and shakes her head. "An emotion." Frenchie shudders sympathetically. "Nasty business," he says. "Really is," she says. "I thought I'd defeated the bastards long ago." Confused and slightly scared, Frenchie frowns. "I don't think—that's how that works?" "Hmm."

Reposting here—the fic isn't finished yet, but this chapter was posted ages ago. Might not make sense if you haven't read it. Comm by @toboldlymuppet.bsky.social, a scene from the 2nd in the First Light trilogy, "the gold & the rust". series: archiveofourown.org/series/3908644 #ofmdfic #udfic
A Pieta style artwork in pinks, oranges, yellows & golds. Ed in his leathers holds Izzy, partially swaddled & covered by a torn white shirt & red cloth draped over his lap. Under them, torn & stained remnants of rich clothing forms a makeshift soft bed on the deck of the cabin. The clothing is obviously Stede's—woefully damaged, but still useful & helping them recover. A fire is going in the fireplace; cloth is draped around & behind them as though to keep the warmth in. The lighthouse painting peeks out from behind some draped cloth. Izzy lays unconscious but peaceful across Ed's legs as Ed sits on the ground holding him. Behind them, Izzy's golden prosthetic leans up against a bed. Ed's expression is hopeful as he holds Izzy to his chest. Izzy has visible scars on his residual limb, and also has scars from top surgery on his chest. Ed's beard is somewhat grown out, longer than where it was in s2 but not nearly as long as s1's. Behind both their heads are golden circles like halos.

Izzy seems to be drinking it of his own free will, at least. "What is that?" Roach asks. No point in delaying the inevitable question. Teach looks between him and Izzy anxiously. "Izzy doesn't like sugar." "Yeah he's more of a honey guy, I know," Roach says. He points to the cup. "But what is that?" Izzy looks at him like he's debating something in his head. Eventually he says, "Herbal remedy." Roach's mind tries to digest that. "Herbal remedy for what?" "None of your business," Teach snaps. "I mean, I am the ship's surgeon," Roach says. "Unless you're planning to maroon me again. Medicinals are somewhat my business." Captain Teach glares at him. A few months ago, that might have meant something. Now, Roach merely glares back. Izzy hesitates, takes the cup from Teach with a shaky hand and says, "I'm a fucking alpha. All right?"

ofmdfic published May-June 2022
Post s1 canon divergence where Stede finds his inner sadist. Steddyhands, happy ending #udfic
archiveofourown.org/works/392121...
600 x 600 pixel title card with a white border. The text reads "Nothing Fades Like the Light by Unpleasant Diversions" and the background is split between two images. The top half shows a wooden grate on a ship, letting light in below deck; the bottom half is underwater, with bubbles & rays of light leading to a darker, murkier depth. Summary card with a white border & white background behind the text/excerpt. The same background as the title card: the background is split between two images. The top half shows a wooden grate on a ship, letting light in below deck; the bottom half is underwater, with bubbles & rays of light leading to a darker, murkier depth. This card reads: Rated M|41.5k|Complete Stizzy -> Steddyhands Post S1 Canon Divergence Izzy leaned back against the wall casually, moving like a man who didn't notice or didn't care that he was tied up and captive. "If you're going to kill me, do me a favor and make it quick? Surely even you could manage that." The idea of killing the man—or having someone else kill him—made bile rise in his throat. No matter what had happened on the deck earlier, he realized, and said aloud, "I don't want you dead." Almost lazily, Izzy pushed himself away from the wall and closed the distance between them with two swaggering steps. The already small room felt suddenly more claustrophobic as he got into Stede's space; he trailed his fingers down the front of Stede's shirt, jabbed him hard with a finger. A few short weeks ago, Izzy never would have thought to touch Stede, not without being touched first. Now, Izzy tilted his head and snarled, "Not got the stomach for it?" "No," Stede said. He knew he was meant to feel weak admitting that, but the spark in Izzy's eyes wasn't derisive, or belittling. He realized it was something else entirely—captivating, challenging, and something else that was more impenetrable, and it set his nerves on fire. Izzy knew, somehow, exactly what Stede was there for, and that it had nothing to do with any sort of trial. With a smirk and that same inscrutable look in his eyes, Izzy asked, "How do you want me?" Stede grabbed Izzy's shirt collar with one hand and pulled him into the punch. "Quiet," he whispered. "I want you quiet."
