How to build an optimization toolbox
“Optimizing a game” and “developing a game” are two activities that tend to blur together. And while you probably have an elaborate toolbox for developing your game, when it…

Thursday game dev, a moment of learning, because not everything has to be funny. Unreal Engine material, 4 nodes = 100500 variations (just kidding): Dot -> Sine -> * -> Frac

The PCG Pathfinding node lets you automatically clear foliage between locations. In this case I'm tracing a path between the front door and the nearest road and clearing any grass or debris between them! #UETips

When an Unreal 5.3+ game runs, it will immediately kick off precompilation of global shaders. You should wait for that to complete before starting the game, otherwise you'll likely get hitches. You do that with the NumPrecompilingPSOsRemaining node. #uetips

Hmm, smoothNormalSphere texture this is something interesting, adds new ideas for experiments. You will find this texture in the Engine folder. Unreal Engine, material, radiation smooth step ;)

I called this Unreal Engine material "Simple liquid for the bottle". What is simplicity or better to say optimization? This is not transparency, this is a mask and an example of using DitherTemporalAA

There's a rad feature built into Unreal 5.4 and onwards that allows you to see any other actor with a matching property. Just activate the 'Property Color' Viewmode then Ctrl Click on a property and any actor with a matching property will be highlighted. Great for tracking down issues! #UETips

This is my first time playing with Dither Temporal AA Node in Unreal Engine. As far as I understand, its main purpose is Opacity Mask as an alternative to Translucency blend, more cheaper. For now for me it's perfect for flow effects
