The contradictions deepen when those invested in maintaining the precarity of the underclass give way to those who sincerely wish to eradicate the underclass, but those two camps are always in tension.

Actually we should just give citizenship to every undocumented person in the United States who wants it. Walking over an imaginary line isn't some great moral atrocity. Making people live in the shadows as a permanent underclass absolutely IS.

It's weird to have elected leaders who say they want to crash the economy, reinstate segregation, strip human rights and create a perpetual underclass and then have people ask why are they doing this are they bad at economics ?

the threat of deportation creates an underclass that can't access the justice system or public services. these people are then exploited. that's the entire point. ICE and DHS (and their European counterparts, etc) are not "failing to address" this, they exists *to* create this underclass!
