#undergraduates
I teach undergraduates. And I have said many times: as often as they frustrate me, and as very strange as we sometimes find each other, I love this generation of students.

Admin bloat is bad - and a structural effect of neoliberal privatization and should be opposed - but that’s not why UCs used to be free and now cost 10-20k a year for undergraduates

These figure get thrown about. I’d like the MSM to question politicians like they are undergraduates pretending to construct an argument.

They’re not setting a good example for the undergraduates.

My main joy when looking at our website was, for a long time, spotting pictures of staff members who could pass as undergraduates, and finding them on various course pages. Obviously they were frequently laughing.

Who is the best early modern to teach to undergraduates and why is it Berkeley?

genuinely love it when undergraduates inductively "discovery" social theory. Reading a paper where the student, with a fitting tone of eureka, proposes that maybe newspapers are not about the content but about the community and sense of belonging that they create. I just love it.

Only thing I would add to this excellent thread is that the right-wing position on the Western Canon - indeed their entire approach to the humanities - is also about ignoring decades of empirical, peer-reviewed research on the subjects they purport to be teaching undergraduates.
the right-wing position on the Western Canon is not coherent and is not meant to be; it’s not about reading and thinking with a body of writing but about stabilizing an onanistic image of The West. The same project that demands reverence for Plato to build the image bans reading Plato to maintain it

Just a few weeks ago I showed the @interpolaber.bsky.social first year undergraduates taking my module "Behind the Headlines" the film "The Price of Truth" about Novaya Gazeta and Muratov.
“There are political repressions taking place. Now they’ve reached us.” Journalist and Nobel laureate Dmitry Muratov tells me how the Russian authorities have “strangled” Russia’s most prominent independent newspaper. Novaya Gazeta is closing down. #ReadingRussia

I really don't want to "kids these days" this, but it's possible undergraduates don't quite appreciate the absolutely tremendous scale of the theft!

“The Feynman Lectures on Physics” is a three-volume set of lectures given by Richard Feynman to undergraduates at Caltech. Covering mechanics, electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, they are renowned for their clarity and are considered a classic of science education.

(I find it very easy to track the Doonesbury characters because the undergraduates in the strip are pretty much exactly the age of my parents ... who knew Trudeau at Yale. My parents are now in their mid-70s.)

I asked my undergraduates if they had voted. 100% had.

Undergraduates in my lab and several iterations of course-based research lab classes did all of the lab work for this publication. They also did a great deal of the writing and figure design!

He’s not actually too stupid to understand it. He’s pretending to be too stupid to understand it. If I can explain it to undergraduates so that they understand it, it’s not that hard to figure out.

We took the annual St Anne's Classics School photograph today. Undergraduates, graduates, tutors, and Poppit the dog were all present and correct.

Many many undergraduates. There’s a lot of family wealth and passion for UK education in Europe!

#FactCheck Friday: #HigherEd institutions provide adequate health insurance for all students. FALSE. Typical student #HealthInsurance policies are for young, able-bodied undergraduates & don't cover all care needed by graduate & marginalized students: institutionalrepository.aah.org/jpcrr/vol13/...

I watched the first part of question time. There’s a profound lack of critical thinking and honesty in uk politics. It’s a soundbite mentality. I’d have expected better quality thinking from first year undergraduates. More concerningly it’s an integrity free zone.

It depends on who the intended audience is. As a resource for professional philosophers, it provides excellent in-depth summaries of each topic. But the writing is too condensed and technical for most undergraduates or lay audiences. For that we have Wikipedia, IEP, etc.

* "Professors" who are basically running industrial research labs (plus a startup on the side) and actively look down on the idea of teaching undergraduates.

* People actively finding new ways to spend money they don't actually need to spend to do their research because more $$$ spend is rewarded.

Teaching undergraduate poetry has given me a window into how undergraduates conduct relationships. On the one hand there are the girls making exactly the same mistakes my friends and I made at their age (and sometimes continue to make), like dating someone who doesn’t “get” that you’re a poet.

Such a rich review by Samuel Fisher of Chris O’Kane’s book.

Both O’Kane and Fisher on O’Kane are making me think I need to rework my lecture on commodity fetishism for the geography undergraduates later this semester
