To be clear, the @nytimes's diversity goals were put in place to address the historic underrepresentation of women and minorities among the paper's staff. This problem exists at most newspapers, where women are woefully underrepresented in economics and politics coverage and on the opinion desk.

It's hard to find the words. NSF just terminated the grant for Journeys, a mentoring workshop that tried to tackle underrepresentation of women in international relations. Future scholarship will be the worse for it. But this photo from our last gathering will motivate me to keep fighting.

I was coming to point out that there an enough famous people in 🇺🇸 and 🇬🇧 that only finding 6 trans people vaguely related to them is actually a statistical underrepresentation…

On "full of Asian faces" Sarah Pochin seems to misperceive a comparative underrepresentation as a massive overrepresentation, and to express a visceral anger about it. The only explanation I can think of so far is that any visibility - even underrepresentation - would trigger a grievance.

The heartbreak of bedbug underrepresentation in the National Book Awards
Can't help but notice the underrepresentation of Central WI. Well known for its prime rib (and the best French onion soup I've ever had!), I nominate The Pinewood Supper Club (Mosinee) for next year.

I've used words like biased, systemic, and underrepresented in seismology papers. These words aren't even necessarily related to humans. An Earth model could be biased by an underrepresentation of different seismic phases. You could have an algorithm which adds systemic error to your predictions.

Anyway. You get the picture. The lack of self-reflection that people pointed out in Fenlon's editor blog at the time actually seems like an underrepresentation of how indifferent management felt toward the outrage coming from all sides. I hope there's more than is in these emails, because, sheesh.

Hell, Democrats should use the enabling language of the 13th Am to say underrepresentation of Black people is one of the badges and incidences of slavery and refuse to seat any Congressional delegation that doesn't reflect the ethnic makeup of its state. Pack the Court so SCOTUS upholds it.

Noticeable underrepresentation of women as corresponding authors in the 1%. Almost as if AI has been trained on years of discriminatory behaviours and is perpetuating that bias.
