Religion note: Cruz appears to be accusing Hamilton of universalism (the idea that everyone goes to heaven), but Hamilton has stated the line in question was inclusivism, not universalism.

Also: among the signers of the Declaration of Independence was at least 1 literal universalist, and likely 2.
Warnock on Ted Cruz suggesting Muslims won't see heaven: "It's bigotry. Pure and simple. Religious bigotry is bigotry. Republicans know they are losing the argument. It's deeply disheartening, though not terribly surprising, that they are trying to stir up these old demons."

today’s song from the Albert Cairn near Balmoral in Aberdeenshire. Bonny Udny, highlights the universalism in folksong, carrying the same message—love for an area and significant partner—can be found in Scotland, England and Ireland, linking the British oral tradition.

This is very well put. In the Arab world Palestine has long undermined Western discourse on norms and universalism, which always failed to apply in this particular case. As @stelhami.bsky.social argues below, Palestine is now a paridigmatic test case much more broadly.
I've argued that Palestine has been a “prism of pain” reflecting Arab and Muslim grievances that go well beyond Palestine. Today at Brandeis, I argued that Palestine is now a “prism of injustice” through which many globally see the broader struggle for justice and human rights.

what’s wrong with universalism?

This is our albatross. It's an extension into liberal governance of what Christopher Hitchens lamented as the loss of universalism/universal solidarity, most scandalously among leftists.

One of the innumerable big lib accounts declared both Francis and Leo "smart enough that they're probably secretly agnostic or atheist" after HM, and multiple have done the same about Francis' hopeful universalism/encounter with the child asking about his dad.

Perhaps…

The West’s universalism is not universal

It's very much a form of ethnopessimism.

Fundamentally rejecting the possibility of liberal universalism.

Off to Historical Materialism London! Delighted to be responding to Ericka Beckman's brilliant book Agrarian Questions in this roundtable, as well as speaking in the 'Red World-System' panel organised by Myka Abramson & Daniel Schwartz in their 'Universalism and Its Discontents' stream.

Coates has really turned into like what a lab would produce if you wanted to combine all the worst parts of the left/liberal divide. None of the smart critiques of id pol that you sometimes get from socialists and none of the commitment to universalism that you get from liberals

Hi! Did you have an opinion about universalism?
November 1, 2026 at 10:43 PM
(In Christianity this is called "universalism" or the heresy of Origen, called Origenism. It's something to have a heresy name after you.)

universalism (everyone gets to heaven, eventually) is the only thing i feel is compatible with an all-loving God, and I have very very strong memories of the creeds I had to say where we feared the torments of Hell and man. did things to my psyche lmao

France in living memory operated electoral mechanism that would make Jim Crow blush yet people exault their bullshit <colourblind universalism>

My introduction to Hell MI came by way of my church. Not your regular sort of Church. Unitarian Universalism was a pair of religions that came together, got rid of their doctrine and dogma, and opened the doors to everyone interested in exploring ideas, beliefs, and how we do better.

Yeah, universalism is the only doctrine of salvation that I consider morally palatable at all. The 'refining fire' interpretation is ... not great but at least not eternal torment or annihilationism, both of which I think are outright evil

It's bollocks, and it's not universalism
