A lot more staff took the Deferred Resignation/Early retirement this time around— it was re-offered the week of 7 April . I’m hearing ~ 11,000 for Army. No numbers yet for Civil Works (Corps of engineers) but I know 6 colleagues in my immediate circle. I am still here.

One detail I'm still trying to wrap my head around -- days after the failed DOGE trip, the WH directly ordered the USACE to open 2 dams and let out 5.6 billion gallons of water, which could have flooded communities. USACE stopped after 2.2 billion gallons & panicked calls from lawmakers.

I've now heard from staff at two different USACE districts that EPA staff have been instructed not to coordinate with USACE on dredging management/permitting. I'm sure that will go over great with the ports.

I am retired from that agency. When I first heard the news of the water release, I thought “surely not from a USACE project.” Then I heard the name of the dam and immediately knew “that is a USACE project.” I was so disappointed we had no one on our entire agency to stand up to the idiot and say NO!

I helped landowners collect estuarine community data in tidal creeks affected by a manmade obsolete navigational channel. NOAA flow-through funds supported us for 4 years! USACE used our data and are closing the cuts to restore the salt marshes
