Hello everyone! I think a proper introduction is in order for this new home. My name is Max and I am a passionate digital and traditional artist. My focus is mainly on prehistoric life but I love to dabble in creatures, fantasy, and sci fi. Take a look and see if there’s anything you like!

Happy Fossil Friday, this is the holotype skull of Kosmoceratops housed at the Natural History Museum of Utah! Roughly 76 million years ago, this dinosaur lived in a lush, diverse jungle alongside other unique ceratopsian species, such as Utahceratops.

Certainly not fighting the 'cute' allegations with this froggy green.

There is something about Utahceratops -- probably the neotonic brow horn proportions -- that makes me call it 'Cutahceratops.'

The wyrmling loves T-Rex the most.

I am a Utahceratops fan. Or any ceratops really.

Spinosaurus is amazing!! Right now I really like the Utahceratops.

Utahceratops is pretty cool. Actually all the ceratops are amazing.

The wyrmling loves the T-Rex.

You can see parasaurolophus and a wall of ceratopsia in this picture.

My favorite changes all the time as well.

Currently I love the Utahceratops. The wyrmling is a T-Rex kid to the bone.

Dinosaurs had many of the same bones and muscles we do, just in different shapes, but they did have some special features we don’t. Like big caudofemoralis muscles! The muscles extended from the front of the tail to the back of the femur, a leg retractor that also helped stability while walking. 🧪

Dinosaurs changed a lot between hatchling and adulthood, including their ornamentation.

On Utahceratops, the small horns on the frill - the shelf of bone behind the skull - are triangular and pointed in juveniles but flattened in adults. A rough way to assess the dinosaur’s growth stage.

One way to figure out whether a horned dinosaur fossil represents a young animal, or is just small, is to look at the epioccipitals - the bones decorating the frills of ceratopsid skulls.

More pointed usually means younger and flattened or rounder indicates maturity, like in Utahceratops here. 🧪

It is paired up with my alignment of Ceratopsians, and cornered by the Mold-a-ramas that I’ve gathered in my adventures in Chicago. It’s getting to a point of relocating the Mold-a-ramas for full ceratopsian/margocephalian visibility. And so I can add more.

Here are some rad dinosaurs that we know about because the land they were found on was protected as Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Guess what land isn't protected anymore?
