Uttakleiv is probably the second most famous photography location in Lofoten. However, it was my second least favourite place. By Lofoten standards it was crowded and conditions were difficult. This image was the best I could do, although it does show that even the lesser spots are still incredible

The Dragon's Eye in Norway is a natural rock formation located on the shores of Uttakleiv Beach on the Lofoten Islands.

It's a circular hollow in the rocks that looks very much like a giant eye, hence the name.

Ho il cuore spezzato.
Non è mai stata colpa mia.
Hai continuato a ritornare.
Ora e per sempre.
Non lotto più per te.
La visione.
La perdita.
Il dolore .
La perdita.
La conquista.
La perdita.
La luce.

Donald Yip captured this photo of Drageøyet ("Dragon's Eye") on Uttakleiv Beach, Lofoten archipelago in nothern Norway.

You're looking at a boulder trapped in a glacial pothole ('jettegryte') created roughly 16,000 years ago as the Fennoscandian Ice Sheet retreated.

Das ist auf den Lofoten. Haukland Beach. An dem Tag war es angenehm warm mit 24 Grad, das Wasser ist mir persönlich zu kalt, mein Mann geht allerdings schwimmen. Von dort kann man am oder über den Berg zum Uttakleiv Beach laufen. Tolle Runde, inkl. Begleitung durch Schafe.

Ancient rocks and tidal pools frame a snow-draped mountain at Uttakleiv Beach. This is a wild, harsh coastline shaped by the storms that constantly batter Norway’s Lofoten Islands. Perhaps the most famous feature of Uttakliev Beach is the Dragon’s Eye, a rock that sits at the base of an ancient hollow. Finding the Dragon’s Eye on the day we visited was a bit of an adventure. The road to the end of the beach was icy, and it was a scramble across the rocks to get to the landmark. But it was totally worth it. Of course, once we found it, others did too. A tourist group came by and it became more challenging to get a good image with everyone jostling to get a clear image. Be prepared to be patient and ready to go to get the shot. The trick here is to shoot with an appropriate aperture to capture the Dragons Eye in the foreground, while keeping the background acceptably in focus. Focus stacking would be a good option, but would require enough time to get the shot. ## Image Data * C: Fujifilm X-T5 * L: Fujinon XF 16–55mm f2.8 R LM WR * E: Lightroom & Radiant Photo View this image in my Photo Gallery, on Vero, Flickr or on Glass
