Thanks for sharing your journey. Yeah, I also had a choice at one point between UWaterloo and UBC, and UBC made more financial sense

I ended up only doing my masters at UW, which is easier financially than doing undergrad there as I understand

I love both schools!

In the case of Ion, I think connection to the UWaterloo campus is a big part of the business case, and the Waterloo Spur is very convenient for that.
I would also take issue for instance with NJB’s argument that Line 5 should be at grade in midtown.

The Citadis Spirit trams are longer at about 45m so it’s less of a big deal for Finch then Kitchener (where the line fills almost a regional role with fast connections to UWaterloo, uptown, downtown, and hopefully eventually Cambridge).

[I strongly suspect the president lined up a conference call to the head of the physics department and the provost as soon as they heard ‘associate professor’ on the news, because they *should* be freaking embarrassed about what it says about UWaterloo to their peers.]

UWaterloo has these stairs in Needles Hall (an admin building), which legend says were designed to slow rioting students enough for low ranked staff to form a human wall, allowing the valuable senior admins to flee. Should the low rankers perish, there would be considerable pension savings.
