"Påskkäringar" ("Easter hags"), children dressed up as witches that go around collecting small offerings in a similar way. I wonder how all this joins up. Our Valborg corresponds more or less to your Beltane, I guess; what do you do at that time of year?

The Swedish word for election - Val - is the same as for whale.

And Walpurgis is known as Valborg, which can be read as "whale fortress".

I've updated my experimental AIS tracking site, fta-ais-live.obliscence.com, with UI improvements (it works on mobile now) and better GPS/GNSS anomaly detection and classification. (cc/ @tinkafur.bsky.social @miskaknapek.bsky.social @auonsson.bsky.social)
Screenshot of the "Finland–Norway AIS Situation Map" in dark mode, showing a "Possible GNSS spoofing" alert for the tug RATNIK in the Gulf of Finland. A side panel reads: "RATNIK, Tug, pilot & service, MMSI 273253530. Under way · 102.2 kn · 345° · 25 × 12 m." The red alert says: "Its positions are moving faster than any ship can. Step 2.9 km, Implied speed 263 kn." Status is "Moored", destination "VYSOTSK", position 60.4881° N, 28.0503° E. On the map, the vessel's track is a thick magenta (50+ kn) circle with time markers at 10, 20 and 30 min. Several RATNIK markers sit on or near the circle, linked by thin cyan lines and one red line, showing positions jumping around a circular path near the coast of the "Восток Финского залива" nature reserve. Screenshot of the "Finland–Norway AIS Situation Map" in dark mode, zoomed in on Bergen harbour, Norway. The header shows "LIVE 612 vessels" and the time 17:22:06 UTC. Small colored vessel icons with name labels crowd the waterways around the peninsula and the Bryggen waterfront, including "SKANDI SANDEFJORD", "ISLAND VANGUARD", "SIEM PEARL", "SEA1 RUBY", "SPRING OF THE FJORDS", "SKANDI MINDER", "GULLAAS", "GRIP MAXIMUS" and "HAVILA POLARIS". A thin red line crosses the harbour toward "GRIP MAXIMUS". A vessel key at bottom left lists counts by type: Cargo 1,518, Tanker 246, Passenger 823, High-speed craft 173, Fishing 695, Tug, pilot & service 806, Pleasure & sailing 370, SAR, law & military 215, Other/unknown 1,589. Mobile screenshot of "AIS Live", a dark-themed vessel tracking map zoomed in on Helsinki harbour, Finland. Labeled ship icons cluster near Kruununhaka and Katajanokka, with names like "HELSINKI", "EMMA", "VALBORG", "POLARIS", "RESCUE JENNY WIHURI" and "KAIKU". Blue vessels "SUOKKI", "SUOMENLINNA II" and "VIKING X" have track lines heading toward the Suomenlinna islands. Navigation buoys and light sectors are drawn on the water. A "LIVE" indicator sits at top right. The bottom panel has tabs "Vessels" with 6,435 and "GNSS issues" with a red badge of 6, above a filter box reading "Filter by name, MMSI, call sign...".

Just det! Hemmagjorda munkar till valborg. Friterade i kokosfett.

- Man får bara rösta EN gång
