Valir was *not* prepared for that! But he's not a very brave man, so sometimes, he needs a little push.

“What are you—”, Valir whispered, but Kraghtol was already committed. “Listen, everyone!” he said, his voice raised over the noise of the room. “Tonight, you’re going to hear something special. He came here all the way from Wardenreach, just to sing for you. Everyone, welcome Valir the bard and his Dwarven lyre!” For good measure, he repeated his introduction in Orcish.

Here's a fresh #WIPSnips.
One should really think that at 22, Valir would have stopped getting taller, but perhaps that's not what the servant is referring to.
Fun fact about Valir: smell is one of his primary senses.

#WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“You’ve grown a lot since we last met, Valir. I hope you find what you’re looking for. May the moon watch over you.” Master and servant shared another moment in silence before Valir mounted Wynter Rose and clicked his tongue. The mare trotted on, leaving behind the el Greylune estate. When Valir looked back one last time, he thought he saw light in the mansion’s library, and a silhouette watching from the window. He shuddered and made his horse hurry. Only now did he realize how fresh the air smelled tonight.

“I wonder if it’s always that part of your body changing back first. Remember the first time?” “I remember a very embarrassing exchange in a bathhouse,” Kraghtol said. “During which you recommended actually using one. It wasn’t the best day of my life.” “It wasn’t?” Valir asked. His mouth twitched into a smile. “I remember it quite fondly, actually. It was the first time I got to save you from the law. Not that I’m counting.”

Trolls have the quirk of either calling people they interact with by their full name or coming up with a special name for them. In this #WIPSnips, auncle Freylar has one for Valir, which seems... unfitting.

#WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“There’s no need to get worked up over his words, Gromvald, son of Drolltyr. Valir Truth-Speaker is not wrong. Yes, it was a test, obviously. I never said it wasn’t. Did it amuse me? Perhaps a bit, but that wasn’t the goal.” “Truth…speaker?” Kraghtol squinted his eyes. Of all the monikers they could have chosen, they called Valir Truth-Speaker? Was this a joke? Were they mocking him? Surprisingly enough, Valir ignored the name.

Valir sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Nobody asked me if I wanted to be an alchemist. But it’s a prestigious position for a third-born. Graduate from the school with the highest honors, if needed supported by a generous donation, and then buy yourself into a high rank within the guild. It’s what people expect of me. It’s what my father expects of me. And I’m Valir el Greylune, son of Duke Selanthor el Greylune. Of course, I’m doing what is expected of me.”

“You’re not going anywhere, asshole,” Fennew said, standing up. “I’ll have your dirty green head now.” “Excuse me for a moment,” Valir said equanimously. With his back straight, he walked up to the orderkeeper and smiled, adjusting the signet ring on his right hand. Then, without warning, he struck with a flawless right hook that connected with Fennew’s nose, producing an ugly cracking sound and knocking the other man back to the ground.

“Thank you for seeing us, Freylar, child of Garseldomp. We are travelers from Wardenreach. This is Kragh Wulfspar, an alchemist. Dagna Emberforge, the finest inventor in all of present Bronzebreak. And I am Valir, a humble bard.” It was amazing how many lies fit into such a brief introduction while being technically correct on all accounts. Kraghtol really wouldn’t call himself an alchemist. Before he had been able to object, though, Valir had already moved on to Dagna, who was the only inventor from present-day Bronzebreak.

Valir looked at him, tent pole in hand, with his mouth open and his brow furrowing. “What? What are you rambling about? I thought you liked it!” he said with an edge. “I did; it’s just you… I mean, I assumed you were going to…” “Well, perhaps you should listen more and assume less,” Valir said, and for a moment, Kraghtol was standing in front of the noble Valir, the snarky version of his friend he had first met. Then, the noble took another breath, and the hardness in his face melted away.

In a previous #WIPSnips, we got to see a bit of Kraghtol's face. This time, the word-gods have decided to bless us with a small glimpse of Valir.
#WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
The visible upper part of the noble’s body was pale and slender, unburdened by any scars or signs of physical activity, and his wheat-blond hair spilled over the edge of the pool. “Valir.” Kraghtol’s voice broke the distinguished silence like an axe, but he couldn’t care less about the disapproving looks of the other patrons and bathing servants. It had the intended effect, though, and Valir opened his eyes.

“My name is Koltharar, son of Jomkeromp,” Koltharar said. “And what business is that? I hope you’re not planning to meddle in troll affairs.” “Meddle?” Dagna burst out, her head tilted, trying to get water out of her ears. “We’re not ‘meddling’; we —” “Are you referring to anything specific, Koltharar, son of Jomkeromp?” Valir asked innocently, and the troll just glared at him for a few seconds. Valir held his gaze.

these turf wars are getting kinda wilds ...

an amazing commission of my rainbow glow valstrax, valir, with their favorite frenzy friend, by @booneyard.bsky.social! thank you again so much 💙
An anthropomorphic Gore Magala bends over, using their butt to pin an anthropomorphic Valstrax named Valir against the wall. Gore Magala enthusiastically grinds against the obvious tent in Valir's heart-patterned boxers, saying out loud, "Fu-u-fu-feeling frenzied yet?" in a teasing manner. A meter above Gore Magala's words indicates that Valir's almost fully infected with the Frenzy, the constant teasing and grinding rapidly building up his lust. The same image as the previous, but without Gore Magala's dialogue or the Frenzy meter.

Out of the #AwesomeCharacters main cast, only Valir can be considered patient. Kragh degenerates to a nervous wreck if he has to wait, and Dagna... You better not let her wait, unless you want her to get *ideas*.

Is your character patient? How do they handle delays and waits?

Technical question!

Do you use dialog differently for certain characters?

Do some speak in shorter, choppier sentences? Use different grammar? Communicate non-verbally? Use multiple languages?

“And for that I’ll have to walk around half of Wardenreach and come up with a plan on how to break into the nation’s capital.” “Oh, now that’s a hard decision. Live in a cozy, friendly town or run around in the cold, risking my life, social standing, and inheritance. Dagna, what do you think?” Valir asked, rubbing his chin. Kraghtol knew the noble was joking. Still, the mere thought of Valir or Dagna abandoning him sent his heart beating in a frenzy.

The red-clad woman nodded again, and they continued their descent in silence. It stank of mildew, sweat, and feces, and an occasional rustle or groan revealed unseen prisoners. Valir wanted nothing more than to turn around, flee up the stairs again until he was outside, and breathe. He wished he still had his perfumed handkerchief, but he had lost that somewhere in the Wild Lands. Finally, the silent orderkeeper stopped and gestured forward. The cell she pointed at was at the end of a side corridor. The passage was made of dark stone, covered with large, spotty stains of unknown origin. As far as he could tell, the surrounding cells were empty; this one wasn’t.
