I’m not sure anything has soured me more on the concept of a rational market than Elon company valuations
"SpaceX, which is expected to target an initial valuation of $1.5 trillion or more, has a financial picture that is notably worse than any other megacap U.S. company. It lost $4.9 billion last year on revenue of $18.7 billion."

all valuations are fake and some valuations are really really really REALLY fake
SpaceX's $1.8T "valuation" isn't real, it's manufactured by a tiny 4.2% public float. $1.8T is ~95x SpaceX's trailing revenue. Google IPO'd at ~7x revenue, Facebook at ~20x. This is Snowflake's multiple stapled to Rivian's capital burn, a combo with a flawless record of bagholders.

This is honestly just making up valuations right here.

I mean, yeah. “Please accept as collateral these property valuations so I can appeal my conviction for lying about property valuations” is a BOLD move. Can’t believe it didn’t work.

We've started the era of suicide rounds. Gonna see some whacky valuations that will lead to inevitable down rounds.

And further, his investments and business holdings aren’t worth nearly as much as you think. In fact, not even close.

His “wealth” is based on the *valuations* of his companies. And the valuations of his companies is mostly HYPE.

In other words, his wealth is ALL HYPE AND NO SUBSTANCE.

This is the truest thing in the world. Dude got rich with vaporware and then used govt handouts to pump up artificial valuations while getting most of his income from trading carbon credits.

I also think 'panic the AI is getting too smart' is part of the marketing for companies whose absurd valuations depend on this being hyper smart and hyper useful

With Alphabet now valued at $3 trillion, California is home to three of the four companies with the highest valuations in history.

The Golden State is the epicenter of American innovation and driving national economic growth.

We have no peers — and no other state comes close.

What if… people made money on company valuations rather than on the usefulness of the technologies they build? imagine how bad that would be…

Rising profits means rising valuations. Rising valuations means increasing equity. Equity sitting in a business, according to modern assumptions, is not making returns. So you take a loan on the equity and gamble on something that might make even more returns. This kills the profitable business.
"The games industry is crashing" and "The games industry made a record $197 BILLION in 2025" seem like contradictory things, how can things be going so good for the industry, and yet so terrible for people being laid off en-masse? Well, investors pulling money means studio closures and job losses.

I predict Trump, who has bet the entire economy on the overinflated valuations of AI, will bail out AI/data centers.

Ordinary people will likely be the ones who pay.

AI bubble is far bigger in terms of stock valuations and investment spending than fracking ever was
What if the AI boom is a bubble but doesn’t cause a recession when it ends? Nathan Tankus compared it to the fracking boom

It appears Tesla and SpaceX are no longer the darlings of Wall Street. May their valuations continue to plummet and Musk's fortune that he uses to hurt people continue to shrink.
