Day 2: Morning Catch
Tried drawing with colored pencils this time to play around with value. But now I'm craving Ackee & Saltfish 👀

This is how cool artists take pictures of their sketchbooks right? With tools in weird places? Yeah....I think I nailed it.
Anyway, daily #valuestudies

some value studies!!! not very good proportionally but i forgot how fun these are. the first one is from today, the other ones i did over the summer. comparing them i kinda feel like i've regressed. which makes sense bc i have NOT been drawing much since uni started 💔

Doin value studies until I don't suck or something idfk.
Keeping them rough as I'm trying to beat perfectionism in my 2D practice.

Tomorrow is portfolio day and I have nothing really "new" to show, but I made a few "value studies" in my sketchbook yesterday, so I will show this:

My favorite study I've done so far. (Subtractive drawing) Doing value studies with darker skin is really awesome, and I'm glad to get more practice/exposure.

Here’s another film-still value study that I recently painted. I spent a bit more time on this one, but not too much, as I really wanted to get all the subtleties of the face correct as well as incorporating some interesting brushstrokes.

Recently I've started doing some more value studies from film stills as I find them really helpful. I limit these to about an hour so I'm not tempted to go down the rendering rabbit hole...

For day 25 of #pleinairpril hosted by @warriorpainters.bsky.social I ended up doing some 5 minute map crunch studies because it has been rainy outside all week and I haven’t figured out a waterproof setup for painting outdoors yet.
