Varosha is a quarter of the city of Famagusta in Cyprus. Before 1974, it was a major tourist area with hotels, shops, and residences. In July 1974, following a Greek-backed coup and subsequent Turkish military intervention, the residents fled, and Varosha was fenced off. It has remained uninhabited for over four decades.
