In the summer of 1949, Finns Reino Karpio and Matti Näränen piloted a homemade, pedal-powered "amphitrike" velocar from island to island across the Kihti Sea to Sweden.

I want to live where velocars are a thing. Sweet rides like in this picture from Vancouver where VeeMo is being trailed. Some of these have electric assist, but they're not ebikes. Some have force multiplying gears that amplify the energy you put in.

A velomobile is basically a recumbent cycle with an enclosure added. Some weigh as little as 22kg/49 pounds Very helpful in super-cold weather. Also called velobike, velocar or human-powered vehicle (HPV).

Look up Francis Faure. This guy was a 2nd-rank cyclist when he broke the 1-hour distance record on that bike. The elites hated him because he was outrunning them and they couldn't even draft on him.

So UCI banned recumbents. And that's why diamond frames are still the default and bents are so rare.
