Good morning
A very busy cold day ahead! But im looking forward to it 🤗 lots of people coming to see our hard work
Veltheimia bracteata, or forest lily, is native to the south-eastern Cape Provinces of South Africa
It flowers during our winter in the northern hemisphere

Found a male and a female snakefly in my yard today. I've never seen them before so it was pretty cool to get both in one day. #macrophotography #insects

February lasted approximately 25 years. I don’t have high hopes for March. But my Veltheimia bracteata is flowering at least. Supposed to be pink but clearly it had other ideas.

Plant alphabet day 22:

V is for Veltheimia capensis (sand lily) and Verbascum chaixii (nettle-leaved mullein). The former is a bulb from South Africa which blooms at Christmas in my greenhouse. The latter, in both its white and yellow forms, is a reliable perennial in the garden. 🌱

Veltheimia bracteata is also a #summerdry bulb from S. Africa, but I moved it to a pot some years ago because it is fairly tender, and I don't have an ideal spot to replant it in. The wavy leaves are quite attractive 🌱

Curious how many indoor plants don't appear much in the trade, but circulate from person to person quite widely. I was given a white Veltheimia years ago by a friend, which is just about to bloom again, but never knew there was a pink.

Identifying bulbous 🌱 is a minefield, esp. starting with a common name. So I hope someone in the #botany realm can help identify my white 'lily'. Bought years ago as a "Veldt lily" (but it's not a Veltheimia), I hope I'm right with #Crinum moorei, #Natal lily. Flowering now (late Australian summer).

Really pleased to see a flower on my Veltheimia bulb this year after last year’s stem got snapped. I grew it from seed about 15 years ago and it’s moved house with me several times.
