I know *violists* who play the Bach Chaconne, and it's like, who do you think you're impressing?

Anti-violin language: “Well, fiddle-dee-dee!”

Why: this expression can be equivalent to an ironic “well la-dee-dah!” as though the fiddle were not a truly important part of history, music, and conviviality.

New Phrase: “Well, viola-la-la!”
(Violists, I’m kidding, please don’t kill me.)

I actually think the pressure to vibrato width relationship might be essential to good viola playing given the… proportional construction acoustical inefficiencies compared to violin and cello. Most good violists I know talk about pressure as an essential sound component, with wider vibrato

It helps if you have a condition where you can over extend your wrists and or fingers from what I've heard from violists. Uhh, I don't recommend trying to develop one in your 30s

My last two crushes were bass players, plus my forever crush Paul McCartney haha I definitely have a type.

They definitely are, violists are a real close second for the most part but we're also incredibly awkward lmao

Any particular reason why?

Interesting chamber work by Mahler.

Sounds like one of these pieces that violists get excited playing (though I've yet to read the score).

The piece sounds like collective sighing with glimmer of joy x2, anger, grief, collective sighing again + joy, and then sorrow end.

Not an official Americana Highways review, but really liking the debut album from British band Mary In The Junkyard, out today. How could I not - they have not one, but two violists! Check out "Blood" below. #listenbetter youtu.be/hOKLWpMOaU4?...

What do you call the folks who hang around the musicians at conservatories?
Violists.

That’s what I hear, portability is pretty difficult. But I’d love to rent one and give it a try. I’m leaning towards cello. I also feel like a lot of people make fun of violists because it’s so similar to a violin. I’m still researching though, would love to give both of them a try

It will not heal our nation to go around and each say something nice about a group to which we don't belong but let's try anyway. I can go first, it seems like violists usually have very good personalities.

Lament For Two Violas

I played viola for several years in the school orchestra. I don't recall what piece we played, but one year my first love and I (we were both violists) played a duet together for a competition and it was beautiful.

8 years ago I got to mix a chamber ensemble led by Ludwig Göransson performing some of his cinema scores, and the violinists and violists were skeptical to say the least, but ultimately won over by the precision 4099s provide. These days they are more common but not as much as they should be.
