ultimately I think the best social media technologies are ones where the software explicitly reifies road-tested social norms: letting you explicitly know where you 'are', and clearly signal that to others goes a long way. eg: the subreddit model, or old twitter's circles feature

.@nodejs has always been about I/O. Streams, buffers, sockets, files. But there's a gap that has bugged me for years: you can't virtualize the filesystem.
You can't import a module that only exists in memory. You can't bundle assets into a Single Executable without patching half of core.

The problem with virtualized lists is that they break ctrl+F search, not sure if there's a good workaround

my experience of a lot of recommendation algos over the last five or so years has been that they virtualize the experience of trying to find something on your bookshelf at 2am after waking up delerious from some nightmare
Slowly trying to radicalize myself against all algorithmic content now, to the point that I find the Prime Video interface (clunky mess, can't find anything, complete random memory of anything you watched previously) more trustworthy than Netflix', which basically has all the tics of a drug dealer
Has anyone else's Instagram taken a drastic turn for the worse in the last couple of hours, few days, etc. Just went to check it and my Home feed is just absolutely riddled with movie clips, suggested accounts I don't want to follow, and the one post from someone I actually know is a week old.

That's never what I was discussing here though, I'm speaking about user applications. For example the last thing I really regularly used to use distrobox for was mpv (The flatpak had an issue which I needed to work around).
I don't think it's an objectively shitty solution for that, it did the job.
