August 03, 2026 - PRESSADVANTAGE - ABR Electric has begun installing PSP Vortexx whole-house surge protection systems for residential customers in response to updated National Electrical Code requirements that now mandate surge protective devices for new and upgraded electrical services. The code change requires homeowners adding new panels or increasing service capacity to include Type 1 or Type 2 surge protective devices as part of the installation. This requirement applies across the United States and carries particular significance in regions with frequent lightning activity, including Texas. "First, it's now in the United States a requirement by code. When you upgrade or put a new service, you've got to have it," said James Adams, owner and master electrician at ABR Electric. "If you live in the southern states — Texas, Louisiana on over to Florida — you're going to have lightning a boatload… you want to have a good quality surge protector. Otherwise, you will lose stuff every storm season." The PSP Vortexx Series R surge protector installations represent a critical safety upgrade for residential properties throughout North Texas. The devices protect household electronics, computers, and appliances from damage caused by lightning strikes and electrical grid spikes. Installation at the main electrical panel provides comprehensive protection for all connected circuits and devices throughout the home. As an Electrician in McKinney, ABR Electric handles all necessary permits and inspections required for surge protector installations, ensuring compliance with both local city standards and the updated national electrical code. The company serves residential customers throughout North Texas communities, including Allen, Frisco, Plano, Prosper, and Celina. "Our PSP Vortex is one of those with the lifetime warranty, with some adjustments," Adams noted, highlighting the long-term protection value these systems provide to homeowners. The National Electrical Code update reflects growing concerns about electrical infrastructure protection and the increasing vulnerability of modern electronic devices to power surges. With more households relying on sensitive electronics for work, education, and daily activities, surge protection has evolved from an optional upgrade to a code-mandated requirement. Collin County Electricians face particular challenges related to the region's weather patterns, which include frequent thunderstorms during spring and summer months. The combination of lightning activity and aging electrical infrastructure creates conditions where surge events can occur regularly, potentially damaging unprotected electrical systems and connected devices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAieD-e9080&t=1s ABR Electric is a licensed and certified electrician team that maintains Tesla certification and operates as an authorized Generac dealer.
