We refer to my mother‘s first cousin - whom she lived next door to growing up; they are the same age and were best friends - as my Aunt Mary. Add Italians to your list of fibbers, guess? #resist #mamdani #votemamdami
it's a bit wild to me that this happened on a spanish language station, given how, to my understanding, the vast majority of the world (including spanish speakers) (including white people) often refer to people not even biologically related to them as "auntie", "tia", "tante", or something similar
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.
Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."
