Excited to say I'm one of the speakers at this year's Broadsides Day, taking place at Cecil Sharp House on 22nd February. I'll be talking about @antiquaries.bsky.social's collection of 19thC Cork ballads, now catalogued after a mere 150 years. We got round to it eventually! 🙌

The image is a page from John Malchair’s tunebook at the VWML dating from the early 1780s, including typical marginalia about where/when/from whom he heard the tune, which is why I love this source. The tune itself begins: do dum do-be-do do do do, do dum do-be-do do ba-do dum.

my first thought before I read the date was that it might be a version of a song about Napoleon (often called Bonney) but whoops! it's far too early - might be worth checking the online catalogue of the VWML?

Nothing deterred, they've now announced that Cecil Sharp House and the VWML will be renamed Folk England House and Folk England Library. As you can imagine, this has annoyed all the same people and quite a few more.
