Spent about 15 minutes checking the Gorse on Warmwell Heath this morning and found 30+ Gorse Shieldbug enjoying the sunshine. They do love to sunbathe but scuttle off when they see the camera.
2 Green Sand on the nearby cress beds but little else of note seen.

That afternoon, raids were attempted against multiple airfields including Odiham, Worthy Down, Warmwell and Farnborough. These were largely ineffective and in some cases alternative targets were bombed, with significant Luftwaffe losses. In total, 44 German aircraft were destroyed that day.

On 17 September 1940 8 RTR were on Salisbury Plain. That morning a Ju88 had been seen over Shepton Mallet and three Spifires from 152 Sqn had scrambled from RAF Warmwell to intercept it. The Germans put up a good fight but eventually it was shot down by Sgt Ken Holland, an Australian.
