Some attempts at a mini painting of some lily pads on a pond from @kristinvanleuvan on Youtube's video tutorial.

I discovered I couldn't blend the shadows properly, so I practiced little shadow blending swatches and learned a bit more about wet on wet!

Then tried to improve water control. TRICKY!

The left page shows a small (just a couple of inches on a side) painting of water lilies on a pond. The shadows are rough and there are a lot of sharp lines where puddles of paint have dried badly. It's mostly greens and yellows. Around that, are swatches and tests to practice blending brown or green 'shadow' shapes on green or yellowy backgrounds. They look like coffee stains. The right hand page shows a bunch of weird shapes in weird colours - practice for painting inside the lines. There are also practice swatches for blending a shadow or shade line - with one side of the line sharp, and one soft and blended. Little tear-drop water drawings indicate how wet the paper was when the swatch was attempted. Photo of a watercolour sketchpad. The left page has 8 more attempt at practicing wet on wet shadow/shading blending - this time in a rectangle shape, with an arrow-marked target 'thickness' for the shading. Increasing success over the 8 attempts. There's also a second attempt at the lily pad painting, same size. This one has pink lily flowers, and the green background water is too dark - but the shadows are better! There are many notes here on the attempts to practice blended shadows. The right page shows 6 horizontal grids of 5 rectangles and each rectangle is painted in a lighter or darker shade in an attempt to practice knowing how dark the paint will be. The lower two grids have the rectangles numbered out of order - a challenge to paint the squares in the grid with the right shade of colour, without just doing it from one side to the other. Nestled in between the grids - more attempts at mini lily pad paintings. The shadows are much better! And the water isn't too dark.
