WaveApp is easy to use if you've used QuickBooks. You can set up your invoices to accept payments via ACH/bank transfer or credit card, and the fees are reasonable.

Square can be hit and miss but overall it's not a terrible option. I've seen another called waveapp, there's also Boosty as well. I had to dig into past commissions to find the other methods lol

2. Keep track of your income and expenses! WHY? - Business income goes into the business account. Business expenses come out of the business account. Whatever profit is left after all that is what gets taxed. If you don't keep track, doing your taxes is kind of a nightmare. - When you spend money on work stuff (travel, supplies, postage, etc), those are business expenses. Keep track of them and, whenever possible, keep the receipts. (I use waveapp to just scan the receipts when I get them.) - If you ever get audited, having these records will save ur booty. 3. What counts as a business expense?* *This is not a replacement for talking to a CPA familiar with your industry! These are examples and guidelines. - When you spend money on your business, this is called an expense. Some things may be 100% only for business (such as marketing), and some things may be some business and some personal (such as your rent if you WFH). - You can only claim the amount that was used for business. Using the rent example, if your office is 30% of your sq footage, you can claim 30% of your rent as a business expense. - For us in the rave industry, things like tickets, travel, kandi/trinket supplies, or even rave outfits can all be tax write-offs since they are the cost of business for a lot of us. - If you travel for work and also spend some vacation time there, you can only write off stuff from the work days. 3. What counts as a business expense? (and also a note on gift collabs aka trading product for content) cont'd - Starting in 2025, only 50% of business meals can be counted as a deduction. - Mileage can also be counted as a deduction, but only count business mileage! - As a brand, you can count up to $25 in gifted product (per person) as a marketing expense. - As an influencer, you are required to report the dollar value of all gift collabs as income. For example, if a brand pays for a round trip (lodging, flights, tickets) in exchange for content, the money they spent on you counts as taxable income and should be reported. 4. I'm overwhelmed. Where do I start? - If you're just starting your business, great news! You can implement systems for this from the beginning. - If you're already in business and need help untangling and filing past years, I STRONGLY recommend you find a local CPA to help you. My taxes end up costing around $500 yearly, but using a pro means I don't end up with a huge tax bill. - The simplest system (that does require you to remember to do it) is making a spreadsheet to track income and expenses. Mine notes date, amount, what business I spent it at and a note on what it was for (supplies, travel, etc). - If you need a system that does automatic tracking, quickbooks and waveapp are both options that can link directly with your bank and tracks this automatically.
