What if I told you that the wealth and freedom we associate with America were built on the suffering of millions ? The brutal reality of slavery is a story that shaped this nation, and it's impact still reverberates today. In the early sixteen hundreds, enslaved Africans were brought to America, stripped of their identities, enforced to labor in brutal conditions. By the mid sixteen hundreds, slavery became the backbone of the Southern economy, with tobacco, rice and cotton fueling the need for forced labor. The irony of a country founded on freedom built it's wealth on the backs of those who had no freedom at all. The civil war would eventually lead to the Emancipation proclamation in eighteen sixty three. In the thirteenth amend meant in eighteen sixty five abolishing slavery. But the fight for true equality was far from over. Though slavery officially ended, it's legacy of racism and injustice still lingers in American society. The history of slavery is not just a story of the past, it's a reminder that we must continue the fight for freedom, equality and justice for all.
