Pyrocumulonimbus clouds, also known as fire-generated thunderstorms, are a phenomenon where wildfires create their own weather systems, significantly impacting fire behaviour. These clouds form when intense heat from a fire rapidly heats the surrounding air, creating powerful updrafts that lift moisture and ash into the atmosphere. As the plume rises, water vapour condenses into clouds, and if temperatures drop below freezing, ice crystals form, releasing latent heat that sustains the storm. These clouds can reach the stratosphere, generating turbulence, lightning, and extreme weather conditions such as tornadoes and hail. They accelerate fire spread by feeding the blaze with oxygen and dispersing embers over vast distances, while downdrafts can flatten vegetation and endanger firefighters. The formation of pyrocumulonimbus clouds requires specific conditions: a large, intense fire, a stable atmosphere conducive to vertical motion, and moisture in mid-level air. Recent outbreaks, such as the 2019-2020 Black Summer fires in Australia, have demonstrated their global impact, injecting smoke into the stratosphere and altering climate patterns. Climate change is exacerbating these events, increasing the frequency and intensity of fire-generated thunderstorms. Understanding these phenomena is critical for improving fire prediction models and emergency response strategies, as traditional methods often fail to account for fires influencing weather systems.

"La voz de él sonaba así así, la cantante que llevaban no era como la Douglas, llevaban algunas bases pregrabadas.... Pero es que las canciones son tan buenas.... Han sido lo mejor del festival"... Así, más o menos, fue una -aparentemente- contradictoria conversación que pillé por casualidad saliendo del festival Be Prog, my friend! del pasado sábado en Barcelona. Y pensé que no habría podido expresarlo mejor.
