#webscrape
Blew an early career scholar's mind when I explained that a) I webscrape using R and b) make all my figures in stata. I'm a quant rebel.

If you do sign up for this, you get a USB stick marked 'scripts' which is a full webscrape of Wikipedia articles, plus a Temu Chun-Li outfit and an assortment of patterned tights.
Fuck that sky high.

Can that still come up with pretty complex solutions to pretty complex problems pretty fast? Sure! Do I think that's going to kill everyone on earth? No! Do I think they're probably going to webscrape every public log of a porn site anyone's ever visited and make it searchable? Yeah, unfortunately!

Unpopular opinion maybe but yay! for chatgpt : this morning, i used it to write python script to webscrape and tabularize a bunch of roman inscriptions.. always satisfying to make a table with a thousand records and twenty columns in less than an hour.

The LAION-5B dataset already had a lot of controversy for that very thing. Turns out that when you webscrape everything on the internet without human review, bad stuff comes with it.

To the surprise of nobody.

i truly believe there isn't a more obnoxious group of people out there than people who spend money on cloud services just to webscrape residential ip addresses with open port 25565

Current runtimes are showing this will now take 2 hours to full webscrape…. It used to take like 10 minutes at most….

As I said to Donald recently on Twat Social, there are at least 180 other countries that I would visit before setting foot in his third world Fourth Reich shithole.

I suppose they will set some Musk or more likely Thiel-inspired AI tools running and webscrape everything about you. Fascist cunts.

This is the time of the year when I think about my Marie Curie application in 2022, when I wrote I was going to webscrape data from Twitter because "what can go wrong, a billionaire buys Twitter, makes it a far-right playground, and places restrictions for academics to study the platform? nonsense!"

This post was about me putting together a number of scripts to webscrape Arlo & Janis strips because there's not a published book of them and apparently no one has compiled them all.

See my previous post about trying to track down a specific strip I remembered but couldn't find anywhere.
Remember kids, most problems can be solved with a shell script

An extremely, extremely short update. I was dying from a cold AND from figuring out how to webscrape something. ChatGPT never helps me at all #databs
The Week of August 4th
I had a cold all week. And I survived. A very short update.

Right; just taking a guess, I betcha it was a simple webscrape, but it's been fairly solid. Adjustable UI, swipe to fav/remove notifications, etc, and even a notification channel for Android proper with filters and such. Honestly might be worth examining as an entry point for developing new stuff.

Only US data because the station network I use is operated by NOAA and it is incredibly fast to webscrape via Python. I used this dataset for a research project I am working on looking at extreme rainfall in the US.

Sure!

I’ve used it to find datasets for my portfolio. It has helped me webscrape or come up with fake data.

I’ve used it to automate report documentation

I’ve used to help with emails and scoping call emails

Those are just examples off of the top of my head
