The new Copilot app for Windows 11 is really just Microsoft Edge.

Renaming "mscopilot.exe" to "msedge.exe" and its folder from "Copilot" to "Edge" will simply launch Microsoft Edge.

FYI, The actual Microsoft Edge browser and Edge WebView2 has already been uninstalled.

It's Christmas morning, and I'm dabbling in the Forbidden Arts (getting WebView2 to render to an SDL texture)

At least it's not a WebView2 app

(Not yet)

Microsoft tried with Silverlight, WinForms, WPF, WinRT, UWP, WinUI 2 and WinUI 3, before eventually giving up and just using WebView2 and React Native for Windows 11

Meta seems to have given up as well and just switched over to WebView2 as well

Electrobun update: Opening webview2 (system webviews) on windows 🎉.

Apologies for the delay, more to come

actually kinda insane just how many UI frameworks Microsoft developed for Windows. and all for nothing, given devs no longer trust them not to pull the plug shortly afterwards

i think Apple's the only big player to use WinUI 3 over WebView2

Webview2 is considered an essential component of modern Windows, and it looks like some drivers could cause it to break. You might want to check if there's an updated driver for your graphics card.

"fun" story: a major app pounded the table demanding we reduce peak memory use in their WebView2 app. Months of collaborative debugging ensued, leading to many wins. But the biggest improvement? Eliminating a manually allocated, uncompressed, 4K-sized RGBA spritesheet.
✨ I just published a new blog post about a nifty lil’ animation technique: sprites!

Sprites are used all the time in video games, but they’re less common on the web. We do have the tools to manage it in CSS, but there’s a gotcha.

In this post, I share some of the cool use cases I’ve found:
Sprites on the Web • Josh W. Comeau
In game development, it’s common to use spritesheets for animation, but this technique isn’t as widely used on the web. Which is a shame, because we can do some pretty cool stuff with sprites! In this...

I heard some people use the Chrome DevTools MCP server, to let their agents interact with and debug their webpages.
Note that the server also works with Microsoft Edge and WebView2-based native apps.

You may have seen apps built with Electron or Microsoft Edge WebView2.
But... have you seen an app that's just entirely based off the Microsoft Edge Chromium web browser?
That's some crazy work lol.

Windows 11 is finally getting Agenda view back — the feature Microsoft removed for no good reason.

The replacement? A WebView2 panel that feels heavier and less native.
Windows 11’s new Agenda view returns… as a web-powered downgrade
Microsoft removed Agenda view from Windows 11, and now it’s back as a WebView2 component that may use more resources than the original.
