I don’t know about Iceland, but in some Germanic societies, weregild was actually codified to prevent exactly the blood revenge discussed. In the Kingdom of Northumbria, a King was worth 30k gold pieces, and a free man, ceorl, was 200.

anyway it's conceivable to me that if cannibalism were a preserved part of our heritage norms would be unimaginably different in anyway (I mean, this would be inevitable, right?).
