Check out this zine which captures the key moments from "Resisting Technofascism" - a panel discussion moderated by our senior fellow @cyn-k.bsky.social at U of Windsor's #WeRobot2025 conference last month.

Not only will masks not be banned at #WeRobot2025, they will be kindly encouraged and we’ll have some on hand for anyone who would like one. 💕

Day 1 of #WeRobot2025! Going to try to reprise my erstwhile role as unofficial livetweeter—now migrated to bsky!—though slightly worse for wear this year, as perhaps indicated by the fact Day 1 is already half over... and perspective of not having read most papers yet (for... relatability... ¬_¬) 🧵

Good morning #WeRobot2025! Day 2 and reporting for duty. So excited to hear @elizabethjoh.bsky.social 's comments on the first paper "Robot-Facilitated Crime", hoping I catch at least the second half of the session. It's too early in the day to articulate all the thoughts I had while reading it.

Current panel ft @teresascassa.bsky.social discussing 3 blockbuster papers on regulating AI: @jenraso.bsky.social's "Interoperable AI Regulation"; Christina Lee's "Beyond Algorithmic Disgorgement: Remedying Algorithmic Harms"; & @hartzog.bsky.social et al's "Against AI Half-Measures" #WeRobot2025

If you work on interdisciplinary, critical scholarship at the intersection of robotics, AI, law, privacy, human-computer interaction (HCI), and/or comp sci, #WeRobot2025 is one not to miss, esp if you're in Canada! This is an already amazing conference that is special this year for several reasons:
The time has come my friends 🤖

As the moderator /facilitator I may be biased, but we have a STELLAR line-up of speakers: @biancawylie.com, @drvv.bsky.social, @lukestark.bsky.social, and @saraghebremusse.bsky.social #WeRobot2025

#WeRobot2025 As an aside, for those who aren't already avid readers of @teresascassa.bsky.social's blog—providing coverage and analysis of current developments in Canadian privacy, data / data protection, AI, and intellectual property law—you should be! www.teresascassa.ca

Maybe one of the coolest things that's happened to me—being illustrated in a zine! (Not that that's the important part 😅) Much thanks to @kristenthomasen.bsky.social, awesome panelists, & @marcngui.bsky.social for capturing our discussion so well. Check it out here: tinyurl.com/rtfzine #WeRobot2025

On @jenraso.bsky.social's paper, @teresascassa.bsky.social notes how it interrogates the idea of "interoperability" in AI regulation and questions whether proponents of it truly mean technical interoperability, or *economic* interoperability, to aid commerce, as core driving interest #WeRobot2025

#WeRobot2025 "Against AI Half Measures" has 4 authors: @hartzog.bsky.social, Neil Richards, Ryan Durrie, and Jordan Francis. They identify & discuss 4 half-measures: transparency; overlooking harms of *un*biased algorithms; "ethics" isn't law; emphasizing indiv choice > power & collective wellbeing

How did I miss @cyn-k.bsky.social's magnificent live skeeting of #WeRobot2025? Everyone should read Cynthia's threadand then pick out the papers you want to read (available at www.werobot2025.ca/conference-a...)

I'm at #werobot2025 and I'm making a bibliography of all the books that I've heard mentioned (librarian gotta librarian).

www.zotero.org/copystar/col...

I've included *Sourdough*, because it includes a story-line of training a robot to crack an egg.

Let me know what I've missed.

Right on cue: @kristenthomasen.bsky.social: "Instead of dealing with misogyny, we're going to regulate deep fakes. Is it because it's really the AI, or because we as a society don't want to address misogyny?" #WeRobot2025

Christina Lee's "Beyond Algorithmic Disgorgement: Remedying Algorithmic Harms" is an exciting addition to lineage incl @benwinters.bsky.social @jevan.bsky.social's "America's Next 'Stop Model!'" & @tiffanycli.bsky.social's "Algorithmic Destruction": scholar.smu.edu/smulr/vol75/... #WeRobot2025

It's #WeRobot2025 week!! Possibly the most exciting session is not even occurring during the main conference itself: today's pre-conference workshop "Organizing 101: Resisting Technofascism", which we added in the face of the tech-driven dismantling of human and civil rights around the world today.
