A police incident at North Vancouver's Westview Plaza resulted in the closure of the shopping plaza and a chaotic confrontation between officers and a suspect. Witnesses reported hearing multiple police sirens and three gunshots as officers responded to the scene. Video footage obtained by CBC News shows a man approaching an RCMP vehicle, where officers appear to fire a conducted energy weapon at him. The man climbs into the vehicle's driver seat, and an officer prevents the door from closing before drawing a hand-held weapon and firing three shots inside. Police also used conducted energy weapons and later handcuffed the suspect. The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirmed its deployment to investigate potential serious harm during police interactions. A local pizza shop owner described the suspect as brandishing a knife and attempting to enter multiple vehicles before the confrontation. The incident has led to the closure of an Esso gas station, McDonald's, and the plaza parking lot. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while investigations continue. The RCMP described the incident as 'serious,' but no details about the cause or outcome have been officially released. This event highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and civilians, raising questions about the use of force and transparency in police actions.
