One of hundreds of identical Deaf clones raised as disposable corporate weapons, she has never questioned an order, imagined a life beyond combat, or believed herself capable of becoming anything more than company property. Then the death of the only soldier who treated her like a person leaves her with something Wheatstraw never intended her to possess: memories, questions, and a hunger to discover where she came from.   Years earlier, geneticist Marjorie Morning Star uncovered a secret hidden inside Wheatstraw’s laboratories. With the help of reluctant corporate employee Gary Glicksberg, radical repairman Ira Jakobs, and brilliant runaway hacker Ray Einar, she risked everything to keep it from the company’s grasp.   Now those buried choices are coming home.   As R366 searches for her origins, Wheatstraw closes in—and the strangers connected by her creation must decide what they are willing to sacrifice for family, freedom, and the seeds of a future no corporation can own.

It’s sometimes difficult to navigate this SFF space - but I was so happy to be on panels with other Native writers at this year’s WorldCon. Stars like Brian Young, Shane Hawk, Weyodi OldBear.

ok I got a science fiction rec for you that laughs in the face of all this: *As Many Ships as Stars* by Weyodi Oldbear. She is amazing, hilarious, irreverent, and generally awesome. Her next book is first of a cycle, *The Root and the Seed and the Thief in Between* and it thumbs its nose at dystopia

Everything Weyodi says here. #Thread.
1. The REAL danger of now having AI embedded in everything not that the program will become "super intelligent". The best analogy is Doge. The danger is the "Doging" of everything. The AI programs are too big to be understood and maintained properly and embedded in too many vital services (cont.)

It is a powerful moment Weyodi and a lot hangs in the balance. They need our care and our best wishes especially the caste oppressed leaders as they build what comes next.

Hi Weyodi, thanks for saying hello and for your work. 🙏 Are you asking about the owl? I was looking up your ancestry, in Numunu/Comanche culture, will you share what owl symbolizes? Where I live there are different meanings for different Nations. I named my business strix.ca for grey owl in 2006.
