.@marika_louise : @theAIDSmemorial organizer aims to "see the face of AIDS" out of a time when AIDS couldn't be memorialized, out of forgetting >> into the now, into the actual geographies of our lives, a production of a refusal to move past forgetting

.@marika_louise : @theAIDSmemorial geotags those long dead into the NYC AIDS memorial w photos that are clearly from long ago, imitating the filters IG has but as the original and authentic
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : @theAIDSmemorial still appears in top/recent NYC AIDS Memorial to upend the normative time of AIDS in the past and dislocate those lost to other geographies into a particular physical place
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : the NYC AIDS Memorial rife w contradictions a la the gentrification of mind (Schulman) to be placed across from what was St Vincent's into what is now an abstract, white, still, triangular canopy that invoke the history of AIDS...
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : now speaking to Vito Russo & David Wojnarowicz who are well known gay scholars/artists whose posts were geotagged to the NYC AIDS Memorial to reinsert AIDS into present space and time // to remix photos today w loss of past
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : conducting a close reading of the temporarlity and whiteness and emotional charge of https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn9tjZODPJi/ that leads to intimacy/immediacy/urgency around AIDS yet again
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : everydayness to lovers, friends, family, acquaintance of who can remember those lost on @theaidsmemorial -- we see people living, youthful vs wasting victims to see how people *lived* with AIDS beyond just their pathologization/pain
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : centers the ordinary voices of those left behind (the survivors) vs those of the past (the dead) whose face may have never graced the internet and intimate description >> AIDS time is then felt in the present in engagement w those lost
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : the @theaidsmemorial is driven by those who come of age in a generation after >> affords younger/digital generations to integrate into "bygone" era of AIDS / LGBTQ community but Instagram time troubles normative AIDS time as part of the past
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise : argues for disruptive animacy ("quality of agency, awareness, mobility, and live-ness" Mel Chen 2012) in how Instagram space-time and spec @theaidsmemorial interferes with the temporal norm
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise :: these identities of those shown/displayed on @theaidsmemorial does not protect them from AIDS but protect them from disappearing from historical record altogether
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise looking at @theaidsmemorial as reconstructing notion of #AIDS space and time as American, white, primarily btw 1981-1996 ("crisis years"), male, citizenship, middle-class-ness >> redefines/revisualizes who suffers from #HIVAIDS
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise affective immediacy of engaging the sensations of https://www.instagram.com/theaidsmemorial/ and work of hashtags like #whatisrememberedlives #aidsmemorial #theaidsmemorial #neverforget #endaids
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise language of critical nostalgia or affective drag that people direct toward #ACTUP but rather their brand of activism & those who wish they had = way to express dissatisfaction of LGBTQ movement now & what #LGBTQ mvmt still wish we achieved
at @ukgeog #whatisrl

.@marika_louise point of departure: forthcoming #UMNPress book Viral Cultures, looking at both Instagram Time and AIDS Time and where they meet to theorize the clock & location >> (unrealized) potential of disruptive animacy
