I decided that 25.5 hours was finally enough for this wider shot of the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51). I shot it in both LRGB & HaLRGB. I also included a tighter crop that looks surprisingly sharp since it was taken with a 400mm focal length telescope.

Back again to #messier51 #WhirlpoolGalaxy. I used to sketch this and would be pleased to catch just the hint of a spiral arm. 7 years later and using the same scope but with a camera and less that 60 mins on the target, I am amazed what technology can now show... #astronomy #astrophotography

M51/NGC 5194/the #whirlpoolgalaxy in canes venatici is about 88% the diameter of the milky way (~77,000 LY) but only about 10% as massive, and lies about 31 million LY from Lamy, NM.

2 hrs of S50 data. tweaked in snapseed.

Only shot for an hour and a half with some dropped frames. Still, not bad.
