In 2022 a group of Australian kids book creators wrote to Whitsunday Voices, a kid lit festival in Mackay run by Whitsunday Anglican School.
We asked them to reconsider their sponsorship by fossil fuel companies, particularly Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (creators of Hector the Giant Lump of Coal)

This year Whitehaven are paying for buses to get kids to the private Anglican school that runs Whitsunday Voices, a kid lit festival. Whitehaven are also planning a new coal mine in the Bowen Basin but we don't talk about that at Whitsunday Voices *for the sake of the kids*
Two years ago I coordinated a letter (signed by 50 kids authors) to Whitsunday Voices (hosted by Whitsunday Anglican School) asking that they reconsider their fossil fuel sponsors in light of the climate crisis.
They haven't but they've added new sponsor, Whitehaven Coal, as their 'picnic partner'.

Two years later I noticed that they'd taken on a new partner, Whitehaven Coal. It's Australia's only pure coal company, planning to expand with a new greenfield coal mine in the Bowen Basin. ACF and the Mackay Conservation Foundation are taking Whitehaven to court so that's something.
