Hackers Breach WS Audiology IT Systems, Disrupting Widex and Signia Hearing Aid Services
WS Audiology (WSA), the parent company of Widex and Signia, is investigating a cybersecurity incident after unauthorized parties accessed parts of its IT infrastructure. The company disconnected selected internal and customer-facing systems to contain the threat, interrupting digital services used by hearing aid wearers and hearing care professionals. However, WSA said the hearing aids themselves were not affected. The incident highlights how disruption to supporting applications can affect patients even when medical devices keep working. A similar distinction emerged during the Quest Diagnostics platform breach , where access to one service was suspended while core operations continued. For WSA customers, the immediate impact involved app controls, fitting tools, and remote support rather than a confirmed failure of hearing aid hardware. Reporting from Hearing Tracker noted the unauthorized access and service interruptions, but did not identify malware, a ransomware family, or an attacker. Its October 30 report quoted WSA’s response and described problems reported by users. The available evidence therefore supports reporting an IT security breach, not attributing the incident to a specific malicious program. Hackers Breach WS Audiology IT Systems WSA said it acted immediately after identifying the incident and worked with its global IT partners to contain it. The company described the affected environment as its own IT infrastructure. Business operations and core services continued, although protective shutdowns caused interruptions. Restoration was proceeding in phases, with affected systems brought back according to priority. Widex Compass Cloud, used by hearing professionals for fitting and fine-tuning, was taken offline as a precaution. By the October 30 update, WSA said it was fully functional again, allowing Widex Allure and Allure AI fittings to proceed normally. A spokesperson emphasized that the security threat was not caused by the company’s cloud-based software and that Compass Cloud had been disconnected deliberately. Taking systems offline can create visible disruption even when the shutdown is a defensive decision. During the New York Blood Center incident, selected systems were similarly disconnected during containment. That case involved confirmed ransomware; WSA’s disclosure does not establish the same cause. The comparison concerns the response measure, not a shared attacker, infection method, or malware family. The Widex MOMENT app was among the services most affected. HearingTracker reported that some wearers could not access listening settings even though their devices continued amplifying sound. One forum participant described being unable to select a preferred classroom preset while teaching. Other users reported difficulty reaching app controls, showing how software availability can influence everyday communication without disabling the underlying device. WSA expected the MOMENT app to return over the weekend following its October 30 statement. Signia TeleCare was expected back early the following week, while Signia hearing aids could still be fitted and adjusted. These were recovery estimates, not confirmation that restoration had finished. WSA also said its e-commerce sites remained functional and existing orders continued to be processed and shipped. Investigation Leaves Attack Method and Data Exposure Unclear The public account does not identify how the intruders entered WSA’s environment, which systems they accessed, or whether they stole information. No exploited vulnerability, compromised account, or encryption activity was disclosed. Those gaps matter because unauthorized access, service disruption, and data theft are separate findings. Evidence of one does not automatically prove the others. The CareCloud IT infrastructure breach illustrates why that distinction matters: restoring service and investigating possible patient information exposure were separate tasks. WSA’s application outages likewise do not establish that patient records were stolen. Customers and clinics need further findings before drawing conclusions about confidentiality, the full scope of access, or any notification obligations arising from this incident. HearingTracker also referenced a separate July 2024 WSA breach affecting a local retail IT system serving Bloomhearing operations. That earlier incident exposed patient and employee information, according to the report. However, the current disclosure provides no basis for linking the two events. Treating them as one campaign would go beyond the available evidence. WS Audiology Suffers Cyberattack, Disrupting Widex and Signia Hearing Aid Applications
WS Audiology (WSA), the global hearing aid manufacturer behind Widex and Signia, is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to parts of its IT infrastructure. The attack forced the company to temporarily disconnect selected internal and customer-facing systems, disrupting applications and digital services used by hearing aid wearers and hearing care professionals. Although the company implemented containment measures to prevent further security risks, the incident exposed how disruptions to supporting digital infrastructure can affect everyday healthcare services, even when the medical devices themselves remain operational.

If you are using #Widex MOMENT or #Coselgi Mojo and you are getting "something went wrong, try again" ad infinitum: a workaround is to set your phone locale to Chinese.

The app tries to load some consent dialog from wsa.com. This fails. It skips that if the locale is set to Chinese.

Samozřejmě odlitek do ucha, ty moderní "pecičky" netěsní dostatečně, mám 95+ % ztrátu 🤷‍♂️

Hate being hard-of-hearing: I use a small square mic (Widex Sound Assist) to help me hear others e.g. across a table. But I have to explain it to everyone because people not clued in tend to stare at it with fear and think I'm secretly recording them. So frustrating.

One stupid thing about my (Widex) hearing aid is that if I want to change its default settings I have to pay $150 for an appointment for an audiologist to adjust. I got the volume bumped up a bit but now there are situations where it's a little too much.

I have 'no visible dmg' recording engineer level hearing, and tinnitus in both ears. 2 different causes (2 diff meds), 2 different frequencies. Pricey, but I've been using Widex hearing aids specifically made for training the brain to notch out the frequencies. Not perfect, but they help.
