I treasure the multi-panel stick figure comic a student drew last year to explain how the freedman of a Roman haruspex working in Britain came to have a special poison-hiding winecup given to him by an Egyptian thief.

Again, this will never be explained, or questioned, by anyone in the book.

They like the little sapling redbud leaves especially. Right now they're cutting annual winecup and firewheel petals. I want to see them cutting and carrying the leaves but never have.

Also I got this monster aloe today in exchange for NIVE packets of native wildflower seeds LOL

Handed over lemon beebalm, Lindheimer's senna, wild tan tan, tievine, tropical puff, sunshine mimosa, common yucca, Texas rock rose, and winecup for it. ✨

Same with this winecup which is dumb because there’s a wild close relative growing happily like 100 yards away

One specific to my region are the gray hairstreaks. Winecups are one of their host plantS. My first winecup planting from last year flowered this year and the hairstreaks tore that thing up LOL

The Ironweed is starting to bloom, its official we lost all the rudbeckia to powdery mildew last year, and most of the tickseed. This fall we are going to divide and move the winecup entirely out of the front bed, we are also going to move some shrubs that need more water and shade.

My backyard wildflowers. No Black-eyed Susans blooming in May, then pow! As Yogi Berra would say, the place is lousy with them!
Lemon mint is purple vs the yellow of the Susans. The delicate purple flower is winecup & with the poppies bloomed 1st the died out with them. This is the 2nd time around!

That isn't actually "natural" light highlighting this purple poppy mallow but sunlight reflected from a window above & across the driveway. Until yesterday I had no idea that a portion of my garden had a secret sunlight stash 🤷‍♂️.

Vertical photograph of a partially opened winecup or purple poppy mallow flower (Callirhoe involucrata) surrounded by out of focus green foliage. The flower, stem, and a few leaves is highlighted by sunlight reflected from a window above and across the driveway while the rest of the frame is in shadows. The view is from the side, and the flower is in the upper left frame atop a slender green stem with winecup leaves at the bottom of the frame. Each flower has five, red-purple, overlapping petals that form a cup shape surrounding a white center with a cone-shaped structure made up of many white stamens with white anthers below a magenta pistil.

uricred unfinished fic so old I still thought they let thancred go to college

/ nsfw
In Urianger's Studium dorm, the first time, laying atop the bed. Innocently, to Urianger. Murmuring nonsense, schoolwork abandoned. Some absent question of virginity. Some truthful confession. A further question of desire for loss. An admittance of perhaps. Thancred, more experienced than his years betray, atop Urianger within the minute. Both of them caught amidst that infuriating mark in the timeline of denizens where Hyur shot up before Elezen. Thancred, two years his senior and mere moons from graduation, not simply tall but evermore dense. Whatever he's studying, it's partly physical, and entirely confidential. Whatever he is or was or will be, he never seems to make it known to the classmate he lays down beneath him and calls his closest friend. He promises it to be emotionless; devoid of all meaning, nothing, at all, but fleeting pricks of physical pleasure where he can seed them. He wants this to be the nature of all things in his life. More importantly: he wants Urianger. Urianger has never felt wanted, in the way of a parent to child, in the way of a man to mistress, in the way of an upperclassman's mouth around him, enveloping him, holding him down, fingers digging into his hips in effort to keep him from bucking up, from mindlessly chasing pressure, from inciting some horrid choke. Urianger with his hands clamped over his own lips. He's not even making any noise, nor does he dare to, but it's soothing to dig his teeth into the thin skin above a knucklebone, to inhale sharply through his nose, to shudder and come without so much as a whimper. Thancred takes it in his mouth. Thancred spits it out onto hardwood floor. A problem for later, Urianger supposes. This whole thing was a problem to be addressed later. Thancred rises. He is not even hard. A favor, tor a friend. Hardly anything at all. They leave it there. He leaves it there. He lets Urianger clean up the mess, hours later, kerchief to floor. He leaves, and Urianger is alone again, he graduates, and Urianger is more alone than he has ever been in his life. II. Urianger is in his final year of the Studium and Thancred is well into the weeds of his thesis. Drinks, his friend who is no longer his upperclassman proposes, because he needs one, apparently. Drinks, to celebrate Urianger's imminent graduation. Drinks turn to drunk. A lively tavern turns to a low lit room humming with just enough people to get lost in a wood-paneled corner alone. Hey, do you remember when? A laugh. A chide about Urianger's stamina. A compliment of Thancred's mouth. A long walk home in the chill of the cold season. Long enough that Thancred grows impatient, and pulls him into an alley. Urianger's thoughts are murky but his hands grasp for anything Thancred will allow him to hold. His head, as they kiss, palms pressed to each temple, like a winecup brought to his lips. His shoulderblades, prominent, a perfect hold for fingers dragging across his back, looking for purchase. His ass, when he sets a leg between Urianger's own, the pressure so delirious and so new that Urianger spills in his Studium robes and then there is a laugh, and then there is shame, and then there is a mouth at his flushed neck, sucking, there, even though the deed has been done, and some assurance all was well, friend. Friend. Some gentle drunk request. Thancred escorts Urianger's hand beneath the waistband of his trousers, his style distinctly masculine, now, almost foreign, almost Eorzean, and notably absent the decorum of studious drapes. Urianger still does not get to actually see it—he keeps his head up, kissing, hot and desperate, and any attempt to look at the flesh in his hand might strike him down at last with the depth of his embarrassment-but he does feel. It is hearty and warm and thick in his hold. It is slower to spill. When it does it is without care nor warning, over whatever is nearest, which is, of course, Urianger himself, and so his robes are soiled inside and without. Thancred walks him to the fork where their homes differ: Urianger's same, bitter dorm in one direction and Thancred's great estate, belonging to a family that was not, he so surely spoke, his own, down the other path. Urianger still damp with spend and sweat. Thancred waving goodbye.

Good afternoon! It is June 5th in the United Socialist States of America.

Today we commemorate Aviation Day. “Neither an industry nor a science, but a miracle”!

We celebrate the winecup, callirhoe involucrata.

John Carlos was born today in 1945; Ray Bradbury died on this day in 2012.
A batch of purple winecup flowers.
