The rather obliging juv Red Backed
Shrike near Wingerworth, Chesterfield this evening. Watched it take many prey items including a Lesser Emperor which is possibly rarer! @derbyshirebirds.bsky.social

On a hot day, here's a find from a chilly site for #FindsFriday. A beautiful Roman enamelled miniature stand thought to have been part of a portable altar, from the site of two aisled barns excavated during the Beast from the East in 2018 by the hardy Mr Richard Parker of Trent & Peak Archaeology.

I visited the Avenue Flood Storage at Wingerworth to see how it protects Chesterfield and to discuss with the Environment Agency and Derbyshire CC what further measures are needed.

I will post a full update on this meeting and also write to everyone in the areas previously affected by flooding.

Had an amazing day with @greensorganise.bsky.social for their Derbyshire Action Day with @frankadlingtons.bsky.social in Wingerworth near Chesterfield, Derbyshire where he’s looking to unseat a Tory

Lovely day for it, and some good responses on the doorsteps!

Recent flood alerts show we must remain vigilant about the risks to our community.

But we must also remember action has already been taken, such as the huge flood basin on the River Rother at Wingerworth that helped ensure hundreds of homes weren't flooded this weekend. x.com/envagencyyne...

Excellent result - well done.

You would have had one more in #Wingerworth if it wasn’t for the Tory candidate insisting on recounts which resulted in the Reform candidate winning

Conservatives + Reform - same coin just different names

All in favour of community-led decision making over public assets like this.. But the council's intentions here are otherwise pretty murky. I've dug around for a clear justification but can't find any.

Why shouldn't angling have a future here alongside other objectives?
