#worldlizardday
I only just discovered that it was #WorldLizardDay recently, so, in celebration a bit late, because I only saw it yesterday, a cute, pretty Australian Eastern Water Skink.

Finally made the trip out to Clifton Down to see the Common Wall Lizards on #WorldLizardDay last Friday, and they didn't disappoint! Incredibly showy in the late morning sun, giving great views and even posing for photos around the paths and benches #UKReptiles #BristolWildlife

I missed World Lizard Day (though I'm sure it's still August 14 in some parts of the world). Here's a Gippsland water dragon to mark the day.

jiminy's animal reviews: This clever girl is a blue tree monitor (𝘝𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘦𝘪), endemic to the island of Batanta by the coast of Indonesia. Discovered in 2001, this reptile is not yet well understood. Biologists have not carried out any studies on its diet, nor do they know why they’re blue. 🧵

jiminy's animal reviews: This badass is the sungazer, or giant girdled lizard (𝘚𝘮𝘢𝘶𝘨 𝘨𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘴). It’s actually not giant, but the biggest in its family. Despite sounding like a Star Wars ship, the sungazer gets its name from its habit of basking while pointing in the direction of the sun. (1/3)

jiminy's animal reviews: Found only on the island of Borneo is the earless monitor lizard (𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴), a bit of a misnomer because it has internal ears, and you also can’t display Doom on it. They’re very secretive, coming out only at night to eat worms, crabs, and fish. 🧵

jiminy's animal reviews: This is a Chinese crocodile lizard (𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴), a lizard native to China and Vietnam. It can reach lengths of 46cm or 18in, and much like my first roommate, can go days without moving. 🧵

Meet Makara, the 16-year-old skink, for #WorldLizardDay! 🦎 The prehensile-tailed skink is the largest skink in the world, reaching up to 32 inches in length. Their slow movements and camouflaged coloring help them avoid being seen. Makara is enjoying cold grapes for a tasty treat. 🍇

jiminy's animal reviews: This is called a smooth helmeted iguana (Corytophanes cristatus), which is lucky for it, because it could have easily been named after it’s severe lack of neck. (1/2)

Excellent sentiments for #WorldLizardDay
Happy World Lizard Day.

May your basking rock be warm and the worms always plentiful.

For #WorldLizardDay, may I present the Argentine Black-and-white Tegu (Salvator merianae). Not a shock, I saw it in #Argentina 🌿🦎

jiminy's animal reviews: Keep your mind out of the gutter as you read about the Mexican mole lizard (Bipes biporus). Also known as “nature’s HR disaster,” it burrows its way around the Baja California region. It can reach lengths of seven to nine inches, which is 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺? (1/2)

Didn't know about #WorldLizardDay. So for my contribution here's a Western Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus graciosus gracilis) that was kind enough to pose and let me take her picture.
