For further analysis on what the names in WotR can tell us about the characters, I wrote an essay linked here. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers www.tumblr.com/lilyhandmaid...

And finally, this beautiful credits song featuring Paris Paloma features the Old English line "heo is se wind," which means "she is the wind." I bet the writers were kind of bummed that the word for "wind" is "wind." #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Oh, Hera has Hama's harp with her when she leaves! Maybe that's why there are no songs about her. She took Rohan's only musical instrument. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Meduseld = Old English medu = mead + seld = hall. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Fréalaf Hildeson: Old English frea = lord, ruler + láf = what is left—a remnant, remainder, legacy. Hildeson = son of Hild (Frealaf's mother's name); Old English Hild = war, combat. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

"From the moment I first met you, I knew you would be my doom." What a dramatic goth nine-year-old Wulf must have been. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

"Why are you laughing?" "Because I get to choose. And I choose not to be afraid." In the book, Eowyn laughed in the Witch King's face. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Hera should've ridden that Eagle to Frealaf and delivered the message her own self. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

The LotR cinematic universe agrees with me that it would be weird for the Eagles to talk. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

It makes me sad that Gondor and Rohan are on the outs throughout this movie, although it makes sense. I'm glad those two besties got back together eventually. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Some of that might not be quite right grammatically. Unfortunately, I always sort of based my sense of grammar in ancient languages on vibes. (This actually made me decent at medieval Latin, which was also based on vibes.) #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

According to imdb, that creepy old lady is Old Pennicruik. Which is definitely not an Old English name. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

One more addition to the Tolkien tradition of "what if there was a guy who just wanted to stay home and read books and study and tell stories but instead he had to go to war?" #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

I just got chills? At Hama's last stand? Just how quiet is and the way he accepts it. He should've been allowed to stay home and write songs. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers

Hornburg = Old English horn = horn + burg/burh = a fortified place, fortress, castle; dwellings within a fortified enclosure.
(It's the fortress with the big horn in it.)

This sexist line of thinking from Helm was actually very exciting for me as a medievalist because it's a common motif in heroic literature. Women are always suspect because their loyalties are divided between their fathers' lands and their husbands'. #wotrwatch #wotrspoilers
