From the ancient soils of Wrattonbully (just north of Coonawarra), the Smith & Hooper wines are produced from the family owned Hill-Smith Family Estates stable. No change in RRP from the previous vintage (madness!) Winemaker is Heather Fraser. Smith & Hooper, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Wrattonbully, 2022 Deep garnet with a bright rim. Soaking aromas of blackberries in juice, plum flesh, cedar, choc-mint biscuit, woody clove and a red currant edge.

Sourced from Wrattonbully (just above Coonawarra). Fermented and matured in older French Oak. There's a little splash of Viognier that was co-fermented with the main PG fruit. Winemaker is Heather Fraser La Maschera, Pinot Grigio, Limestone Coast, 2025 Pale with a touch of (inner) onion skin. The Viognier adds an apricot stone fruit element that rides over star jasmine, dill, honeysuckle, beeswax and green grass.

The embossed bottle has gotten much lighter over the years. It absolutely used to resemble a cudgeon. With a nod to Bordeaux Blanc and Sancerre in the Loire with the wine making (rather than Fume Blanc style). After 2 months cold stabilisation, fermentation occurred in 6 old 600L French oak "demi-mud" barrels. A slight change in blend this year: Cabernet Sauvignon at 65% and Shiraz at 35%. The close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m) is grown on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully. Maturation in French oak barrels (18% new) and old foudres for 14 months. Terre à Terre, Crayères Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Wrattonbully, 2023 Deep garnet to ruby colour.

Again, no change in RRP from the previous vintage (madness!) Winemaker is Heather Fraser. Smith & Hooper, Merlot, Wrattonbully, 2023 lums, fresh mint, baked clove studs in ham, black fruits of the forest jam, gun flint, sun dried tomato paste, cedar, Hershey's Kisses ™and a little terrine meatiness.

The Bizots put a lot of care and attention into making their flagship Sauvignon Blanc. 57% whole bunches pressed into old French oak barrels for fermentation (the rest into stainless steel). No malolactic fermentation. 8 months maturation before blending and bottling. Terre à Terre, Crayères Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc, Wrattonbully, 2024 Complex and profound. Almond husk, touches of sherry-like nutty oxidation, gooseberry, pineapple marmalade, vanilla crème, just lit campfire smoke, honeycomb, brown pear, smoked ham hock, jalapeño pepper and green tomato leaf.

Continues to be (almost) straight bottling of the Cabernet Franc (8% Shiraz for spice and seasoning), which only comes in the right years. Fruit comes from the close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m) on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully. 14 months maturation in French oak barrels (20% new) and an old oak foudre. Screw cap.

A sneak peek prior to the wine's release on 1st May 2026 Another vintage blend change up: Shiraz (43%) Cabernet Sauvignon (38%) and Cabernet Franc (19%). The close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m, with a low fruiting wire) is grown on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully. Maturation in French oak barrels (12% new) and old foudres for 15 months.

The Bizots put a lot of care and attention into making SB. This sees a late harvest of 60% 'clean,' 35% shrivelled and 5% Botrytis affected grapes. Fermentation in tank to keep things pristine.  Most wineries pump their sweet wine out cheap Terre à Terre, Crayères Vineyard, Late Harvest, Sauvignon Blanc, Wrattonbully, 2024 Pale hue. Soft hessian, yellow apple flesh, apricot flesh, sherbet, gooseberry, pickled jalapeño, lime, box hedge and white stones.
