I rarely relate well, but I am very drawn to characters I admire! Could be any reason-- compassion, intelligence, bravery, cleverness--as long as they have a trait I wish I had, I'll stick to them. #writingA
What kinds of characters do you relate to most? If they’ve experienced a lot of loss…that always resonates with me #writingq #WritingCommunity

This varies by MC, yeah. Taegen is willing to do almost anything, so her real boundary is just not directly harming children. (She has no concern over scaring the s*** out of them, and if some bruises will scare them away from a worse fate, she'll do that)
🧵 #writingA
Is there a moral boundary that your MC would never cross under any circumstances? If so, what is it? Why wouldn’t they cross it? #writingq #WritingCommunity

That it's extremely formulaic and relies more on patterns than skill XD I think it works, but I do wish I was more of an artist than entertainer. I'm okay being an entertainer, but there's a little bit of settling in that. #writingA
What’s the hardest truth you’ve had to accept about your writing? I think my writing is simple without a lot of flowery, beautiful prose. Not sure if that’s good or bad #writingq #WritingCommunity

Winslow Ardef: give people someone to hate, and you'll have control.
Demon General Torlash: humans are frustrating animals...
Lord Commander Hideyoshi Hara: perception means more than action.
"Doc": humans are just smart enough to be dangerous...

Eh... you can simulate pretty damn well based on enough input from enough sources, but I don't think it'll ever fully hit the mark if you haven't felt it yourself. Not saying not to try, just saying plenty of readers will /know/. #writingA
Can a writer successfully portray an emotion that he/she has never experienced, such as being in love etc? #writingq #WritingCommunity

Somewher Cher is writinga cease and desist letter before they steal THAT song from her!
October 25, 2026 at 6:40 PM
Both, because it's really about the /values/ the story presents that tell on the writer. What makes someone the 'good guy' vs the 'bad guy' is basically just a shotgun blast of the writer's concepts and morality, even if you have to analyze more carefully for irony and satire. #writingA
Do you think writers reveal more about themselves through their protagonists, villains, or both? Why? #writingq #WritingCommunity
October 22, 2026 at 9:04 PM
This depends on the monster for me. I love monsters, so I usually want the story, lore, explanations as part of the horror and story. I do understand the tension and pay off of hiding them until the last second, or keeping them vague the whole time, but that's often less enjoyable for me. #writingA
Does explaining or showing a monster’s origins make it less frightening? Sometimes, it makes it more horrifying because those origins are so horrifying #writingq #WritingCommunity

Historical weather data, probably. Maybe reading the Criminal Code of Canada that was in use in 1954 (not the first time I've read it though). Or possibly Offical colours of Canadian money between 1945 and 1970. #writingq #writinga

Uuu I like!
Taegen: she's inhuman enough it's not a concern. She can survive in vacuum.
Kyoka: has enough magic, not really an issue
Rieka: she'd be fine! She's kept herself alive in the wild for years!
Dominika: above average, but not great.
Portia: her natural habitat!

Depends. I'm a character-focused reader and writer, so if the plot hole is just a 'eh, okay, I see it, but these characters are great' I'm pretty forgiving. If the plot hole /weakens a character/? Especially my pet favorite support cast member? Oh you're DNF'd. #writingA
If you find a plot hole in a story you’re reading (by someone else), is that a deal breaker for you? It would be for me if it seriously undermined the plot’s evolution or if there were other serious errors too #WritingCommunity #ReadingCommunity

Latien during her big duel with Djilia in NICEF. She came alive and held both my and Djilia's attention enough to go from one off villain to cast member! #writingA

From “Thawing the Line”:

“I didn’t touch that penguin, your honor,” she grumbled, voice thick with sleep and nonsensical accusations, nowhere near fully awake.

That's what happened with Ferris. He started out as a pure antagonist, and then the train scene happened.

His response and heartbreak felt so genuine and powerful that I couldn't bring myself to take it from him.

MOSTLY gaming, reading. Met my wife through WoW back in the day. We're FFXIV gamers now. I watch a lot of anime and streaming shows as my wind-down. Several specific youtube channels. #writingA

Extracurricular!

Aside from writing, what do you do to keep your life rich?
Hobbies, recreations, vacations? Lifestyles? Freind groups? Foodways? Even your job or calling? Faith?

Pick a couple of things to tell us about yourself!

I just got medically cleared to start up more strenuous activities again!

So naturally, I chose sword fighting! I found a local HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) club to join.

I am also weirdly into learning about historic fashion despite having the fashion sense of an opossum.

Some I heard:
-they don't market at all, you're still on your own unless you're a big name
-their editors just put your book through AI
-their covers are just genAI
etc etc etc
I'M SURE THERE ARE HONEST PUBS OUT THERE. Just wasn't worth the fight to ME

What kinds of myths have you heard about the publishing industry? A fellow writer told me agents want you to have 100k followers on social media before they will represent you. But then why would I need them with that kind of following? #writingq #WritingCommunity

I wanted to learn to understand dialogue in stuff like Pride and Prejudice and Shakespeare when I was very young (so young that they seemed equivalent to me at the time), and I put the work in to understand them. That informed a LOT of my dialogue construction in story telling. #writingA
What’s helped you improve your dialogue in stories? I’m trying to be a better listener. That has really helped #writingq #WritingCommunity

Mostly creature design. How my werewolves transform in TaMB was a combo of classic 'tear out of skin' from movies and butterfly metamorphosis to address my own 'hey, but what about' elements for that classic version. 🧵 #writingA
