This appears to be the Doppler weather radar tracking of the Blue Origin explosion at Cape Canaveral tonight. Initial detection shortly after 9 pm ET, 30 min later it has expanded and drifted offshore.

Saying “seemingly tornado forming” based on the red warning boxes over illinois on my radar app, but it sure looks like those warnings have indeed included tornadoes

A tornado with a well defined tornadic debris signature (orange circle in radar image) occurred with a supercell over northeastern Illinois about 3:45 pm CT.

This is horrible. It appears as though the tidal gage at Kipnuk has set a record (records go back to at least 2000) and the gage on the Kuskokwim River at Bethel is at the highest level it's been this century.

The NOAA budget justification doc that finally was posted today didn't contain a lot of surprises - but as the first time all of the cuts were listed in their destructive detail, it is a depressing read. I tried to distill and explain the weather part, sad as it is.

I wrote about the cancellation by NOAA of the ~$75M contract to procure the next phased array weather radar R&D instrument. Meanwhile, at least $245M of contracts using federal and state funds have been executed for this "facility" which lasted about 8 weeks. #priorities apnews.com/article/flor...
