#xeyes
Yo brothers. I’ve been working on my quad-core again.
Still no L2 cache for the moment.

MP3 decoding, Bunny mesh in the framebuffer, X server, xeyes, analog clock with seconds, loader, CoreMark above 2 per MHz per core × 4, htop across all four cores.

xeyes, but it’s just him sitting in the corner of your screen staring at your cursor.

Excellent write up! Thanks!

I remember a nefarious prank I used to pull in Uni where I (regrettably showed this to a few which quickly escalated) ssh to lab machines of unsuspecting friends, do an xhost, then proceed to open xeyes maximized to full screen. Horror horror

LOL.

Honestly I just like installing xeyes and running it. That's enough graphics support for me.

@benjae wayland reimplementation of xeyes would remove one of the more useful features (checking if an app runs in xwayland or not)

C'est Wayland qui ne parvient pas à faire fonctionner oneko, nuance.
xeyes non plus, d'ailleurs : les yeux ne suivent la souris que quand la souris survole les yeux.

xeyes remains my go to tool for checking whether a window uses Wayland or X11/XWayland

大画面モニターでマウスポインタを見失う? Xeyesとかonekoを思い出した。macOSはマウスを振るとポインタが巨大化するのですぐにわかる。

If amuses me that xeyes has become a defacto standard way to check if your using Wayland or X11

`xeyes -biblicallyAccurate`

a handy program to see what's running on Wayland and what's running on X11/XWayland is xeyes. If the eyes move while you're focussed on a program, it's in X11 mode so it can theoretically receive global hotkeys.

It might have - this was 1995 :-) C++ on VAX/VMS gren screens (maybe orange if yoy were lucky). Transferring stuff to Novel using Kermit, getting hypnotised by XEyes instead of doing actual work...

@mxk@hachyderm.io

Would an AI-powered Xeyes still follow your cursor, or would it follow _you_?
